Who was prescribed Zofran

With my first two sons whenver I called the doctor saying how sick I was the receptionist said that I couldn't take anything and had to just suck it up.

My friend gets pregnant, the receptionist tells her the same thing, weeks go by and she asks the doctor - and the doctor prescribes Zofran.

I cannot feel this way taking care of two little boys all day long. It's just not possible.

So, my questions are:
How safe is Zofran to take?
Do they give it to you if you are only nauseous? Or dehydrated from throwing up?

Anything else you can tell me about it?!

Anti-nausea medication what a god send for me when I was that sick. I took it at the recommended times because without it I felt way too sick. I hope your nausea eases up a bit, it really stinks to be that sick.

my doctor gave it to me because of the nausea. i still take it some days when i feel really sick. apparently he said it is def safe for us to take. good luck!

I took it with Jacob....I was constantly nauseous and throwing up...it was a lifesaver!!!

I got a script after 3 days of not being able to keep anything down - had to take the sublingual. My next pregnancy I just asked as soon as the nausea hit.

I had 4 OBs when I was prego.

The most lenient prescribed it and gave me 5 refills when I said brushing my teeth makes me nauseous. The most strict, yelled at me for taking it and said you only take it if you aren't able to drink water for 3 days and end up in the hospital. I think somewhere in the middle is what I followed. I was terribly nauseous I didn't eat for maybe 2 weeks straight at some point. When I couldn't keep water down for a day, is when i took my first pill, and then I went out to dinner and ate a feast.

Its a brain drug. Not a tummy drug. That's why it makes some OBs nervous. Nothing about it has been proven unsafe, though.

Its like everything else when your prego, you have to set your own limits on what you feel safe and what you don't. Plenty of babies have come out just fine, after their mommies popped zofran.

I took Zofran when was pregnant with my son I had the worst morning sickness it was a efn nightmare now with DD I had really bad acid reflux nothing helped me and on top of that taking care of a 2 year old...so i feel your pain, I remember eating ALOT of carbs with my morning sickness but the Zofran did help but only a little I had real bad. Feel better

I was given it at the ER through and IV when my OB sent me there because I could not keep anything down for 10hrs. At my follow up with my OB she said she did not want to prescribe it to me to take unless I was vomiting on a daily basis and that just being nauseous wasn't something that would "qualify" me for it.

I have a friend who was given it because she felt nauseous all day long and she said it was a godsend! I guess every Dr. is different!

I really could have used something to help me out.....its so hard feeling like this and taking care of DS!!

I had constant nausea during the first 4 months of my first pregnancy. Everything made me sick and some things made me gag. I would come home from teaching and literally go to bed at 6pm because I felt so sick, but I never threw up. The doctor gave me a prescription for Zofran and I never used it because I was scared to take medication. In retrospect taking it would have made life much easier. I think now that I have 2 young children if I became pregnant, and felt that way again, I would have no choice but to take it.

I threw up all the time but still managed a 60 pound weight gain...so basically no OB offered me Zofran

I lived on Zofran after I lost 15 lbs my 1st tri and couldn't keep water down, and didn't pee for 2 days. Zofran saved my life - I think I would have spent my pregnancy in the hospital since I needed it until into my 3rd tri....

It constipates you. Like - turns your sh*t to cement and it sucks, but that's the worst of it.

You might have a kid obsessed with superheroes and star wars. Other than that, I haven't seen any other side effects

I lived on Zofran both of my pregnancies during the first trimester. The first one, I was throwing up nonstop and couldn't keep anything down. This one I was just consistently nauseous, so I asked the doctor for a prescription.

I told my OB that I was nauseous ALL day and when I do throw up, I always get violently ill and end up in the ER..She had no problem giving it to me. I got 8 mg 3 times a day . And a lot of refills. Saved me through out my entire pregnancy...I also had lost 4 pounds in one month...

If so, I'm gonna be completly honest and it may sound rude, but she really is clueless about Zofran and such.

When I was literally dying from puking with noah, I had severe iron and vitamin deficincies, the hospital staff told me to get the IV infucion pump of the Zofran, ...she didnt even know what it was.

And she made many comments after and even during my c/section on how many Pg women these days complained every headache was a migraine, every time they threw up it was endless and wondered why women had become this way instead of realizing it was pregnancy and it was bound to not be plesant at times.

My new OB...the 1st time I called told me to come in...examined me and gave me an RX of the zofran and something else in case it didnt work and told me he"d have the IV all set up already with the insurance if i needed it.

Zofran saved my life with noah. I was on it till the day I delivered via an infusion pump.

With the PG before the twins that I lost I was also on it through the infusion pump.

With the twins I took it 3 times a day for about 8-10 weeks and then only as needed.

Its as safe as tylenol during pregnancy.

It helps if you take it BEFORE you throw up. It will help with the nausea....once you start throwing up, you will tend to need a bigger dosage then they will give you.

And honestly, shes gonna give you the lowest dosage possibly, so you ened to know to ask for higher vs. thinking it is not working.

It helped me so much with the girls pg.

I still threw up...a lot even ..on it, but I could totally handle it.

eta- obviously my being on the Iv infusion was for a hardcore case(s)...I couldnt take a vitamin, hold down water, lost weight and threw up 15+ times a day...

the pills i took if the nausea made the room spin type of thing...or if I threw up and still felt really nauseaous or dizzy afterwards..

One tip that really helped me with this last pg was lemons. I literally had a cut open lemon in a ziploc bag with me all the time. the smell of lemon is a natural cure for nausea. IT would just take that really quick edge off and help keep the nausea at bay.

My doc gave it to me. I questioned to make sure it was safe and she assured me she wouldn't prescribe it if there would be any harm to the baby.

I didnt take it right away (even though I was extremely nauseaus from day 1) but only once in awhile when the nausea was really bad. I was nauseous until about 14 weeks (never threw up).

I took it for about 2 weeks straight twice a day but then I went down to only once a day and eventually was able to completely stop.

There was no way I could have survived without it. It was a lifesaver.

Oh BTW, I got the generic version so it wasnt expensive.

I took it with my DD. My first pregnancy I was so sick and had a different OB and she wouldnt give it to me b/c I could gain weight. The 2nd time around, it was even worse, so i called the new OB and begged them to give me zofran (they also didnt want to b/c I could gain too). I just happen to be one of those people who gains when prengant, no matter how sick/vomiting I am. Anway, they agreed and each time at my app'ts, they tried to tell me I didn't still need it etc. Meanwhile I tried to stop it 2x's and both times I was beyond sick, so I said f*** them and went back on it. If they had said no though at the beginning, I don't know what I would of done b/c I couldnt function off it. It helped me to not vomit as much, but I was still alittle nauseous on it, but that was OK b/c I could function and work and take care of my 2 yr old. I thihk it is fine to take (safety wise). I took it till around 36 weeks and then stopped b/c they dont recc being on it when you give birth and I figure the baby could really come anytime after 36 weeks.

I say get it if you can!!!

i had the nausea so bad and i was dry heaving. i had to be hospitalized. the doctor put me on the zofran pump. i was an extreme case. i was on the pump for about 4 months. and the only reason i stopped was bc it was hurting when i had to inject myself. i would ask the doctor early on and see what he says. i was nauseous but my dr wouldn't give me anything unless i couldn't keep anything down or was borderline dehydrated. she basically told me to suck it up, and now (in the 2nd tri) i'm glad she did b/c though i was nauseous, it could have been a lot worse since I was able to eat and for the most part not throw up a lot.

A very close friend needed it for both of her pregnancies. She took it as prescribed and had no complications from it. She said it really made life manageable for her.

It's safe. You see my kids. NORMAL right? LOL

If you are sick and worried about caring for your boys YOU will manage because you have no other choice.

I had hyperemisis for both pregnancies and the 2nd time around I had a 1 year old. I was on homecare and a nurse came every 2 days to change the IV line. I lost 20 pounds and looked like death. Vomiting is an uderstatement.. I would get violently ill. Once I would start to vomit, I couldn't stop..it would go on an on and on to the point where I pee myself, sorry for TMI..I would break blood vessels in my eyes and get a bloody nose. I would walk around my house holding my son in one arm and dragging an IV pole in the other,LOL!Not easy. My blood pressure was so low that I was hospitalized several times and thought everytime I was being admitted it would be my last because I was going to die. I literally felt like I was dying.

I was hooked to an IV 24/7 receiving Zofran and vitamins. Many times I would get a collapsed vein and the IV would stop working. Instantly I would get violently ill..so YES. Zofran works and it's safe.

I went last night and bought Sea Bands, Ginger Roots, and Vitamin b6. I'm going to call the office tomorrow to make sure I can use them (although I already put on the Seabands last night) and then I'll take it from there.

I actually feel great in the mornings, it starts to hit around 3pm which is pretty much crazy time in this house anyway

the vitamin b6 helped me a little. i was given zofran with Dominic and it didn't help. i was one of the few people my doc had seen who got no relief from it. so it wasn't worth it for me to take. the b6 took the edge off.
lemon drops. they come in a tin and are more sweet than sour helped.

i lost a lot of weight with Dominic, about 15lbs in the first 16weeks.

my 2nd pregnancy was not as bad, but having another kid made it harder. he would stand at the bathroom door mimicking me throwing up. it was fun.

Zofran was a life saver for me. I was nauseous all day everyday. Some days throwing up for my entire first trimester. Sometimes I still feel a little nauseous, but I have not taken it in a while. I was told it was safe for pregnancy. Feel better.
