Who is responsible for shoveling...

Landlord (Who lives on upper Level)
Tenant (Ground Level)

Who is responsible for what parts? Should the landlord shovel a path? Should Tenant shovel a path? Should Landlord Take care of snow and ice removal?

It's the landlords responsibility unless something else has been worked out where the tenant would shovel.

The landlord owns the home and they pay the homeowners insurance, they would be the party to be sued, they are responsible.

having rented pretty much my entire life... it's always been the landlords responsibility, even when it's an out of state landlord or an absentee landlord. I've never had to shovel as a tenant. usually one of the perks to renting is that you are not responsible for the land in that manner.

HOWEVER, right now my landlords are VERY old... they are also friends of DH's parents and give us a break on the rent... they asked when we came to see the apt if we would shovel, having no problems with it, we agreed. So DH shovels for them. We do have EXCELLENT rent... and even still they gave DH $50 the other day for shoveling this season. Which I thought was really nice considering we already get a discount on the rent.

your lease should state who is responsible for snow removal....

The landlord takes care of the property unless it was specified othewise in a contract or when you agreed to the rent deal.

If you rent a whole house, many landlords will ask for you to take care of landscaping and snow removal. But for apartment, it's most of the time the landlord.

It's in my lease that I share responsibility with the tenant downstairs. They do their driveway. We do the walkway to the front door and our driveway.
