Who is responsible?
Moving truck just left. They hit our neighbor's phone and cable lines that were apparently hung below the required 14'. Ripped the siding off her house and the lines knocked over our lamppost. We rent. Neighbor called the cops and moving company states that they are not responsible. We are now worried about getting our rental deposit back from the landlord because of the lamppost.

Who is responsible?
I would say the moving company, although their lines shouldn't have been so low, so I may even go with the neighbor

Exactly. I have no idea on earth how you would ever be responsible for that. That's ludicrous.

Re: Who is responsible?
Not sure who is responsible, but as a rule, you can expect LLs to come up with lots of reasons to keep you rental deposit, or part of it at least.

Who is responsible?
Our moving company did that to out house. Not the siding but stretchers the wires out. Now it was our house, but still. He immediately got on the roof and fixed it for us. I would think the moving company. They knocked it down. They have a huge truck. Someone should have been helping them backup or pullout and seen the wires

This is how I see it as well.
They should've been aware of the surroundings before backing up or pulling in.

Re: Who is responsible?
I would think that your landlord could put it through as a claim and that their insurance would sue the moving company's insurance to pay it. Totally a guess though. It might turn out that your neighbors file a claim, sues landlords homeowners, who sues moving company's insurance...

You, I would think. You hired them.
And I would say that logic is crazy. What if you ordered a pizza and the delivery guy knocked down the neighbor's mailbox? Still your responsibility bc you ordered the pizza? What if the movers didn't knock the neighbor's siding etc off but rather did it at another house 2 blocks away? Still your problem? I would tell the LL that you're very sorry for what happened and you are glad to give a statement as to what you witnessed to whomever they need- police, insurance, lawyer, but that it is unfortunately a civil issue between the business and the homeowner who has damages. The end. Your deposit money is for damages to the LL stemming from use of the rental property.

Re: Who is responsible?
50% negligence of moving company, 50% negligence per se of neighbor. You are not responsible, you did nothing wrong.

Who is responsible?
I would think the moving company isn't that why they have insurance, so when their hard working, breaking a sweat workers are done eating all your food, and they cause damage, its covered.
Look over your contact with an eagle eye, what does it say about liability

Who is responsible?
I would assume it is the Moving Companies problem. If they got into a car accident on the way to your new home would you be responsible? I don't think so.

Re: Who is responsible?
Moving company should have vehicle and property insurance. I would provide their contact info to both your land loard and the neighbor. Their insurance company should cover their truck accident.

Who is responsible?
There is no way you would ever be responsible for this. I would say the moving company and possible the other homeowner could file a claim with their homeowners insurance.
