Who has seen Wicked?

Years ago, I tried to read Wicked and I really didn't like it- I couldn't get into it. I never finished it, which is unlike me. I know the play has been on Broadway for 15 years and it has won lots of Tonys. If you have seen it, what did you think of it? Did you read the book also?
I think I may get tickets for me and my daughter (8), but wondering on opinions.

No you aren't.
I didn't like it either.
I couldn't get into it, the plot I found confusing.
Just not a fan of the show

ETA- my dd is 8 too and I wouldn't waste the money on expensive tickets for a show like that for her. I barely could understand what the hell was going on, no way my 8 year old DD could. She's be bored out of her mind I think

Who has seen Wicked?

I've seen it twice, once when it first came out and recently with DD. I overall really liked it, but thought there were some boring/draggy parts and dull songs, like some of the ballads and 'Dancing Through Life'. I didn't read the book. My friend who read the book said the show is quite different from the book and it annoyed her.

I liked it BUT I felt it was a little too long. The story seemed to drag at the end and they could have easily cut it 30 minutes shorter and still told the same story. That is the main reason I wont take my girls yet. I remember having a hard time sitting through to the end without getting board

It's long and it drags a lot. It might not be great for a 6 year old

Re: Who has seen Wicked?

Just saw it in September with my mom for her birthday. I ended up picking a day that happen to be Broadway week so we got buy one get one tickets.

My mom loved it. She has been talking about seeing it for years.

I actually didn't think it was bad. I would probably go see it again if some one asked me to go with them again. I had trouble understanding some of what was being said during some songs but that is with me on any show.

I did not know there was book and I am not a huge fan of Broadway (I don't hate it but I don't have a desire to have to go to it) so my opinion may not matter much Chat Icon Chat Icon

I brought my 6 year old to see it last year. I would not advise taking kids under 12ish. It is long and drags at times. He told me it was too adult for him. And he is probably right.

I loved it! I didn't read the book but I had listened to the music beforehand so I knew the storyline from that.

Re: Who has seen Wicked?

I have not read the book. I didn't even know what to expect when I saw the play to be honest.

But I really did enjoy it.

Bonus, my friend works for Wicked and gave us a tour of the stage and where all the costumes are kept. My husband got to hold the baby. We got to meet some cast members.

Some of the costumes weigh 40 pounds. It just made us appreciate all the hard work that goes into the show and how the cast make it look effortless.

Even the stage is slightly slanted when you are on it so all characters could be seen.

I wish I could have taken pictures but back then the cell phone cameras were not as good as they are now.

I have seen Wicked 3 times...I really like the show. I enjoy the story. I also tried to read the book but wasn't in to it.

The show is definitely worth seeing.

I saw the show when it came out with Adina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth, and loved it. I did not like the book at all.

I went when it opened 15 years ago since I'm a huge Wizard of Oz fan. I loved it then, and I still think it's great! I took my daughter who is 11 in the Spring where she did a dance class before the show with a member of the cast, and she loved that as well as the show

I liked Wicked but didn't LOVE it. I do love the music, though. I think, at the time, it was over-hyped and so I was expecting it to be "more."

That being said, I was afraid I would think Hamilton was over-hyped, too, but I did truly love that.

Re: Who has seen Wicked?

I recently took my two girls who are 8 & 10 and everyone enjoyed it. My older daughter was actually giving me a really hard time about going, in general she dosen't like sitting through things like that and thanked me after.
