Just curious... whats your deductible? Ours is currently $1000 but we are thinking up raising it to $2500 or $5k to save some cash. Sorry, don't mean to hijack.

Not something I suggest. The savings between going up 2500 and 5000, is not significant.
You could call and ask though..to see if worth doing.
Most ppl carry $500 or $1000 and from 500 to $1k you do see savings.

Re: Who do you have your homeowners Insurance through?

Just so everyone knows I called state farm yesterday for a quote and they wanted to insure me for 100k less then what i know I should be insured for since I am in the business. The girl told me the policy gives an extra 25% so that would cover me for the difference, and I told her that it's better to have more then be right there with the dwelling coverage cause if the house burns down thats all you get. So she quoted me with what I SHOULD be insured for and their premiums were the same as all the other companies I deal with. they are cheaper cause they underinsure, so make sure you have siginificant coverage ladies !!

How do you know it was underinsured?

To also make a correction, its an additional 20% not 25%.....and that should not be considered as the replacement value, its normally just extra given under a policy.....especially because the replacement value is an "estimated" amt.

As for your business etiquette, its not very good. Being in the business also, I dont go bashing other companies out there, to make me look good.

I just provide the facts of what my company provides.

I'm not going to put in a claim for anything less than double my deductible because they will either drop me or raise my rates.

I can save about $400/yr going to $2500 deductible.

I am hardly bashing I am just telling what happened to me. I know what i should be insured for because I did a cost estimator on the house. The cost to rebuild in is in $220 to $250 per sq foot range, so for my 1590 sq foot house insuring me for 250k is REALLY underinsuring me. I think everyone should be aware of what they SHOULD be insure dfor in case something happens where they need to rebuild their house, and I am disgusted with the fact that this company would insure me for that much less.

MetLife. Not sure how much I pay because we pay both the car and home owner's insurance in the same payment.
