Who can you tell?
I'm going on vacation next week with my in-laws and my DH's extended family (like 20 people). I should be expecting AF about 3 days into our vacation.........if I get a BFP should I tell my IL's while we're there? I'll definitely tell my SIL b/c we're very close, but I know my MIL will tell everyone (we discussed the situation last night). She thinks it's okay for the "immediate" family to know (she thinks her immediate family is mine, but they're the aunts, uncles, etc of my DH). Who is it okay to tell before 12 weeks?

Re: Who can you tell?
I think that's a very personal decision that every couple will have to make for themselves.
Some people like to wait until 12 weeks to tell anyone, others tell family and/or close friends right away.
It's up to you and DH!

Re: Who can you tell?
I used to tell right away but then I kept m/c so we don't tell anyone anymore. If you want to tell your SIL that's your decision but I would at least wait until your 7-8 week when you see the heartbeat to tell anyone else. Good Luck!

Re: Who can you tell?
There is really no right or wrong answer to that question. It's totally up to you. For me, just based on my past experiences and what my DH and I have been going through the past 2 years to get pregnant, when the time comes, we will tell the immediate family (siblings, parents) right away, since they know what is going on with us. For everyone else in our family and friends, we will tell after the 1st trimester is over.

Re: Who can you tell?
I agree with the other posters in that it is a very personal decision, but I will also say that when DH and I got our BFP we told EVERYONE, all the people at work...everyone. Then when I had a MC, we had to go back and tell all the people we told, about what happened..and it sucked really bad.
We are now trying again, and when we get a BFP we are only telling our parents and our siblings...we are waiting to tell everyone else until the 3 month mark.
HTH, and Good Luck! I hope you get your BFP!!

Re: Who can you tell?
i have already alerted the FEW friends who will be told when and if we are able to conceive.
i will also share with the girls on here & not go incognito, because you have all shared in the heartbreak each month...so you should also share in the joy.
all said & done - 6 people in our lives & all of you ladies online until month 3.
it's a VERY personal decision.

I agree with this, but for different reasons.
When I got pregnant, we told my parents around the 6 week mark and his brother and SIL around 8 weeks. WE told the rest of my family at 10 weeks or so, but were waiting until after the 12 week mark to tell his parents and the rest of his family - just 'in case something went wrong.' Well, when something did go wrong we kind of wished we had told his parents because it was very difficult to pretend that everything was fine when it clearly wasn't.
I'm not sure I'd tell while you're on vacation the minute after you poas But I would tell both sets of parents/close family and friends when you feel comfortable and then wait until the 12 week mark for everyone else.

Re: Who can you tell?
Thanks for all of your input. If I do find out I'm PG on vacation, I've decided that I will tell my SIL and my parents, but will wait to tell my DH's parents until we get back. I don't think my MIL will be able to refrain from telling the rest of the family while we're all away together.
Thanks again! I've got my fingers crossed this month, and good luck to everyone!

Re: Who can you tell?
1st off good luck!!!! 2nd, i think telling people is a personal decision. im going to only tell my mother, and MAYBE his mother. she is the kind that will tell the whole world so im going to try VERY hard to not tell her right away. i dont want to many people to know till i know my PG is in the clear. i wish you the best of luck!!!!!

I totally agree....when I first got my BFP, we told my parent's and DH's parents as well as my siblings and my grendparents.....then I MC'd, so I only had to tell the immediate family and I think that made it a little easier. It's a personal decision that only you and your DH can make.
