White powder on new bricks
This is a real random far fetched question but has anyone who has gotten new brickwork done ever experience a real whitish powder look when the brick dries? Is this because the bricks are so new and the dust/powder takes time to go away? Just wondering if this was normal.
Anyone else have this problem?

Re: White powder on new bricks
It sounds like the mortor was not cleaned completely off of the bricks when the job was done. If this is the case you have to clean the bricks again and again until you get the residue off.
Good Luck, Tom

Re: White powder on new bricks
This just happened to me, I have a new brick mailbox that looked like someone put what powder all over, I went to my local hardware store (ACE) they told me that the brick was not cleaned (pressure washed) the guy gave murartic acid ( i know I am not spelling it right) Fm me if you need the correct spelling,
but anyways, he told me to put one part acid and four part water and brush the brick, the acid is very strong and you have to be careful, but it worked and it has been three days since I did it and no more white powder I am soooo happy

Re: White powder on new bricks
I spoke to somebody at ACE and they said that I shouldn't use any acidic solutions because it could possibly burn through the cement that is holding the bricks together? He suggested scrubbing with dishwashing fluid.
Is that true?
