white appliances
are white appliances totally out of style? i had black in the last place and they were so very hard to keep clean and all i hear about stainless is the fingerprints..what are your thoughts?

I used to have white and hated them because they were always dirty.

I personally dont have a preference.... white or black.... as long as it is consistent... I don't know why, but many kitchens have 1/2 black and 1/2 white appliances. That drives me NUTS.
I like stainless the best, but I fear it may be going out of style soon. the newest rages, according to HGTV's kitchen expo show, apparently are non-stainless metal finishes.... antiqued / copper / gunmetal....
I hope stainless works out like white and black.... as timeless choices..... and not like the dreaded harvest gold

I have white & I like it....I had black in a rented townhouse & they always seemed smudgy & dusty now matter how often I wiped them. The white just seems clean to me.
I'm not a fan of stainless finishes for large appliances.

I think the opposite -- they are never out of style. They may not be trendy but I don't think there will be a day when you walk into an appliance store and there will be no white appliances. White appliances are actually my preference - they brighten up the room and are very easy to keep clean.

I agree.... I think both white and black are timeless. both have been around for over 15 years, and are still the most popular. White brightens the room and looks clean and inviting, and black looks sophistocated and sleek.
I think the only thing that's now out of style was that odd design phenomenon in the mid-late 80's where EVERYTHING was white at once.... counters, cabinets, appliances, floor, walls...... for obvious reasons 
(could you IMAGINE making a beet salad in a kitchen like that  )

When we bought appliances, we opted for cream, modern styles ones. I felt it was a good compromise with white, black and stainless.
I wanted stainless but didnt get them b/c I thoguht the frig would look like a giant metal box in stainless and shoved in our tiny corner. That was my reason for not getting stainless.
I hope when resale time comes, not getting stainless doesnt make me LOSE $. You know, do people still see that it is still a new appliance if it is not stainless?

I think it depends on your kitchen. We have dark cabinets, so white wouldn't look good, but stainless and black do.
If we had light cabinets, then black wouldn't be the best choice, but white would.
JMO.

I love my white appliances
we had a black stove and dishwasher and a white refrigerator and hate how the black looked. We got all new appliances and they are all white. I dont like stainless steel

I have mixed and i cant stand it. The previous owners did the kitchen over so nice and then got mis matched appliances. As soon as its in th ebudget we want to replace. We have a white fridge, black DW, black & white stove and a black micorwave.....

I have white and love them. My kitchen has light oak cabinets and a pergo floor with a pale pink color on the walls. It gives it a light look.

I think with light colored wood cabinets only white looks good. I think that the black looks too harsh against the light wood. We have white and light wood and I would never switch it to stainless or black unless I got darker cabinets.

I agree with the above posters that they are timeless. We have white appliances and they look good in our kitchen (our cabinets are white and our countertop is a marbly gray).
I also don't like the look of mixed appliances, when we moved in the dishwasher was black, the fridge was cream and the stove was white (and the cabinets were a very dark wood).

ditto. I remember I was just like you, hated stainless (from years in the rest. business) and wasn't a black fan.
We love white. they are easy to keep clean, bright and new looking to me.
