Which windows would you get?
We need to replace about six windows in our home. I don't really like the way double hung look on a split (jmo) so it's basically between tall sliders and casement windows. Which would you choose?

Casement.
When I lived on LI I also lived in a split and we put in some new windows. Those were casement and they looked so much better. I didn't care for the sliders and the casement are a lot easier to clean.

Re: Which windows would you get?
casements have more parts that can break. sliders like the ones you have posted depending if they tilt to clean or lift out. lift out have very few parts that can break on them. i put them in my own home. casements are harder to clean the outside. you will still have a line in the middle if your windows require two casements put together (depending on the width) if you put 2 of them together...you will have a bigger strip down the centre than a slider window.

Casements break easier, do the sliders

Re: Which windows would you get?
I hate casements. I have had them in previous houses and feel like I never get a good breeze

Re: Which windows would you get?
We put the Andersen 'gliders' (sliders) in our last house. I loved the look but found them rather awkward & annoying to open/close/lock.

Re: Which windows would you get?
We used to have casement windows. I HATED THEM!!!!!
Most of the handles broke, some of the mechanisms broke. I couldn't put a window AC unit in. I could never get a good breeze, since the window blocks 3/4 of the window opening. You can only get a breeze if the wind is coming from the tiny opening you get. If there is a fire, it's harder to open the windows. In the 15 years I had the casement windows, I couldn't find a single positive thing about them.....

Re: Which windows would you get?
At an inspection, one inspector said casements are the most energy-efficient windows? But I've never heard that said since!
I think if you get casements, make sure you spring for top quality. Otherwise, the hardware easily breaks, gets stripped.
I have both casement windows and double-hung windows (and I have a split) --- casement in the kitchen and den, and double hungs in the bedrooms and other rooms. I do think the casements are easier to open.

Re: Which windows would you get?
get the casement windows from pella - they have casement windows with vanishing screens - i.e. the screen rolls up into the top - so you only see the screen whent he windows open - we have them on our high ranch and they look great
eta -casement are more energy efficent then double hung
