Re: Which Supermarket ?
I do find King Kullen more expensive.
I shop whomever has the best sales for what I need that week....either Waldbaums, Pathmark or Stop N Shop, I live in the middle of all 3.
Sometimes I'll hit2 in a week, but I work across the street from SNS and 3 blocks from a Waldbaums.

Re: Which Supermarket ?
I like Stop and Shop because I am a HUGE store brand shopper and stop n shop has store brands on practically EVERYTHING. (For example they have their own brand of organics, their own brand of those steam in bag veges that birds eye makes, their own brand of instant brown rice etc)
I found King Kullen didn't have many of their own brands on things. Just the basics

Re: Which Supermarket ?
I do SNS and Waldbaums (Pathmark is owned by the same company as Waldbaums so sales will either be simultaneous or alternating weeks). The one thing that is good about KK is that they will double coupons up to $1 as well as accept internet coupons...so if you clip coupons and print you can find some very good deals. But I'll only buy there when I can get a good deal....
ETA They will only allow up to 5 $1 doublers in 24 hour period.... So its not like those shows where you can buy 50 of one item LOL

Re: Which Supermarket ?
DH - who does the food shopping and could probably be on Extreme Couponing, but I digress - and I only go to King Kullen if we have dollar coupons because they're the only one that doubles a dollar.
Otherwise, yes, they're expensive.
I find that Pathmark seems to have the lowest prices in general. However, it depends on the flyers and what we need. If the flyers match up to what we need and want, I prefer Waldbaums because it's cleaner than Pathmark and I am most familiar with the layout of that store.

Re: Which Supermarket ?
I prefer Trader Joes. But as far as traditional markets go, I'll go to Stop and Shop. I dunno if it is cheaper, but the tend to have more products in stock from what I can tell.

Re: Which Supermarket ?
King Kullen (in my experience) is the most expensive. I think because they are still relatively small and I believe they are independently owned.
I shop at Stop & Shop because they are SO CLOSE and generally have everything I need. They do cost more than some other stores on certain items - but I feel like I save money by not having to go to 50 million different stores. Plus it's literally walking distance so I can save on fuel.
Best Yet is also a good store - but has far fewer options for general grocery in my experience.
I like ShopRite.. but it's too far out of my way to use.
I find Waldbaum's and Pathmark to be offputting because they seem to be less clean. But Pathmark does seem to have some of the best prices around.
I will go to different stores when sales are amazing.

Re: Which Supermarket ?
I always thought Stop and Shop and King Kullen were the most expensive and usually went to Pathmark. I always checked the circulars to find the best deals and pick my store for the week based on that.
Since I've started weekly menu planning based on the circulars and what I have, I've actually started to go to King Kullen more. They tend to have good deals on meat and produce. Also, since I hate the store layout near me, I tend to buy less because I can't find anything! I like the quality at S&S but I find that they rarely have good sales on meat.

Re: Which Supermarket ?
We go to Stop and Shop, and since they opened one just a few blocks from us, it's even more convenient now. We buy a lot of their store brand products as well (i.e. oatmeal, iced tea mix, milk, etc.).
For quick runs (not full weekly shopping trips), I go to Best Yet because there's one around the block from my house. They also have really great produce and meats as well and actually better prices on those things than S&S.

Re: Which Supermarket ?
We shop at Associated and Waldbaums. Associated usually has the better deals for pricier items like Veal and Large/Jumbo Shrimp. There is also another bargain supermarket called "Compare Foods" which has amazing prices..but of course, shopping there might not be some people's idea of a pleasurable experience (tight aisles, selection may be mostly generic brands instead of the higher end items you'd see at a Whole Foods or D'Agostino).
I think Trader Joes is expensive and don't know how any household can shop there exclusively and not go broke. I spent $ 150 for maybe half a weeks' groceries, while spending $ 150 at Waldbaums or Associated buys us food for 2-3 weeks. They do have delicious items, but I see then more of a "treat" for special dinners once a month (maybe). I think the last item I bought there was organic bread in December 2010.
We go to Stop and Shop sometimes and we do find good deals but you have to get the coupons or be aware of them. If we see a flier that has a special on a certain item, we are more likely to get it...
DH does all the grocery shopping since he gets home first and likes to eat dinner early. He spends anywhere from $ 30-80/week on groceries.

Re: Which Supermarket ?
90% of our shopping is at Pathmark, we do really well there. For a good sale we will go to ShopRite. Also, I have found that some items work out better at Target and Costco for us as well.
