Which stroller for airport
DH, DS & I are going to Arizona at the end of November to visit my in laws. I want to bring our city mini with us on the plane but DH thinks that our chicco umbrella stroller would be better because it's more compact. He thinks that they won't have room on the plane for the city mini. The reason I want to bring it is because it has a better sunshade. Has anyone ever brought the city mini on a plane before? If so, did they have to check it or were you able to bring it on the plane with you? Do you think we would be better off with the umbrella stroller? TIA!

Re: Which stroller for airport
we have a city mini but bought an umbrella stroller (coincidentally a chicco ) for our trip to las vegas earlier this month. We thought it would be easier to travel with.
We flew united and it would be best to check the airline's policy on strollers. Some won't allow them on the plane.
united will let you use the stroller up until physically board the plane. then they take it away but then it is waiting for you when you leave the plane, much like a wheelchair. it worked out fine for us.
as for sunshade (that was also my concern in vegas), I also brought a aden and andais muslin blanket that I covered it the stroller with when i felt like it was too sunny or dd was getting too over stimulated. worked out fine. i think the umbrella stroller was better to bring into restaurants too since it didn't take up too much room when we checked it

I have flown with a Snap N Go, Maclaren Quest Single and City Mini Double and gate checked each stroller at the side of the plane on a variety of airlines. The stroller is waiting for you plane-side when you arrive at your destination. I don't know if any airlines let you bring the stroller onto the plane and put it in the overhead - especially now since people are carrying on so much crap to avoid baggage fees. Strollers and car seats can be gate checked for free.
I would take the stroller that DC would be most comfortable with.
