Which is better: LI-IVF or RSofNY
Anybody have experience with both and prefer one over the other? If you went to one and had a bad experience, or problems can you please share with me (you can FM if you prefer)? I've been going to RSofNY but since that hasn't worked and they want to change my treatment plan, I'd be willing to switch if the other would be better.
TIA

Re: Which is better: LI-IVF or RSofNY
This is my story and I have no problem posting it... I was diagnosed with PCOS by my OB and referred to RSNY in Stonybrook (specifically SanRoman). I went to consult and was told after reading all my reports that "There would be no problems getting me PG". I was a classic case of PCOS. I was 38 at the time. I spent a year there doing IUI's, two or three with Clomid and the rest with injectables. I had two cycles cancelled due to hyperstimulation and the rest of the cycles I would have at least 6/8 follicles. After six months I asked for an HSG and was told it wasn't necessary since I was a classic PCOS case. I never even had a water sono to see if my uterus was okay. After 10 IUI cycles, I gave up. It was too much stress. I only saw SanRoman twice during the entire year. I had two IUI's that were so painful, one so bad that I was crying when the Dr. was trying to insert the catheter. I did have one chemical pregnancy, but stopped going there the month after. I took about six months off and interviewed a few other RE's. Of those, I like Kenigsberg (LI-IVF) the best. He was a straight talker and told me that if I didn't get PG on those cycles, then he would guess something else was going on and investigate further. I ended up going to him. First thing he did was an HSG and lo and behold, my tubes were blocked. One completely and the other very swollen, but with enough leakage that he could do IVF. He also told me that I had a lot of scarring on my cervix from a conal biopsy I had done years ago and he was going to have to use a special catheter from there on in. I did one IVF cycle where I hyperstimmed and had six FET's from that cycle. Once we were through the frosties...he and I consulted and I asked him about doing a hysteroscopy and a d&c to clean off my cervix (I had done some reading on my own). He agreed, we did the surgery and did another fresh cycle in which I didn't hyperstim and I got PG on the first frozen cycle after. My transfers were a breeze after the surgery. I lost the baby due to incompetent cervix, but am going to definitely go back to LIIVF for my frozen transfers. Why do I like them better? - he listens, he is accomodating and he is straight up...no business of oh yeah, we can get you PG no problem. The staff there is amazing. The waits are normal and you see "your" doctor on a regular basis. RSNY had terrible office waits in the morning, the staff was good sometimes and horrible others and as I said before - I saw my Dr. twice in a year.
Most people will recommend the RE that got them pregnant. It's only natural. Long before I got Pg, I was recommending LIIVF. I just feel the treatment is completely different. I almost feel as though RSNY is just doing it for the $$$$ whereas LIIVF really wants to get you PG.
Thanks for reading my long, long story.

Re: Which is better: LI-IVF or RSofNY
I really don't have anything to compare to as I was only a patient of RSOFNY (StonyBrook) and was very happy there- Conceived my DS with them in ' 05 and am pg w/ #2 from them as well- I also have 3 very close friends and 1 neighbor who have been successful there as well- It never hurts to consult with another doctor if you don't feel comfortable there
ETA- Sorry, just re-read your post and realized you were looking for opinions from people who have been to both

Re: Which is better: LI-IVF or RSofNY
Well I cannot give you opinions on both but I started at RSofNY. That is where my gyn/oby suggested I go. I had similar experience to Gerty. Especially with the yeah, we can get you pg. I think maybe if you really don't have any situation outside the norm they are OK, but they don't change protocols based on individuality. At least that was my experience. San Roman was my RE also and i saw him twice in 5 months. And the other RE contradicted everything he told me. I only did 3 IUI's with Clomid and got really annoyed with the fact that they would not talk to me about changing protocols until I did a 4th one. At that time I had been reading that clomid can thin lining of uterus and they had found that I had an odd shaped one. No one cared about my concerns nor were they good on answering my questions. I would not go to them. From what I hear many people are happy at LI-IVF. Only reason I didn't go to them was because a) I didnt' know about them when I was switching and b) I'm older and wanted to go somewhere where the stats were higher for my age group. I'm about to maybe change RE's again and only because I think I need co-culture and my place doesn't offer that.
Good luck with your decision.
Just wanted to add: that they performed laparoscopy surgery on me b/c they thought I had scar tissue in my uterus. Well, I didn't have any scar tissue and the RE skirted around the issue when I asked if there was scar tissue. I really though they didn't do anything (except waste my time) and my new RE confirmed that without me even asking.

I have been very happy at RS of NY, but honestly, you have to go with your gut. If you don't feel comfortable there, then get a consult at LIIVF or somewhere else. Everyone has different experiences, and the answers you get here are going to be based on those experiences. Your situation is your own, it is hard to compare to other people.

I started going to RSofNY in Mineola about a month ago. So far, I am extremely happy with the practice overall.

Re: Which is better: LI-IVF or RSofNY
I have been a patient of both and I'm going to say LI-IVF hands down. I was a patient of RS Mineola and to this day I have not found one dr to agree with their treatment plan for me (I have gone to several REs) so to me that is very telling. Besides that, I thought the RS Mineola office had some of the rudest staff I've dealt with in my 3 years of treatments.
Definitely have a consult at LI-IVF, I see Dr. K and to me he is great, but I am past the hand holding stage and just needed to hear the raw hard facts and percentages.
I'm not sure what your issue is, but that would be my main reason for going to any clinic - who is the best for treating that issue.
Good luck to you!!

Re: Which is better: LI-IVF or RSofNY
Every so often this comes up...and u will always get different opinions. I went to rsofny and loved them............... Stelling is awesome...San Roman is more cocky...but a excellent doctor. there is sooo much awesome things they do that has been documented lately...latest being that I remember. Stelling helping the woman concieve a perfect match baby to help save her other baby. I do not think they were people in it for the money, I do see other people have different experiences.. I think the bottom line is wherever you go---walk in knowing your stuff and demand allllllllll appropriate tests immed before anyone jerks you for a few months. good luck and sending baby vibes!
oh---forgot to add--I didnt go to Mineola---I went to Stonybrook

I agree, I had a fantastic experience at the Stony Brook RSNY office. However, I was only there for 5 months total and got pregnant on my first IVF so I had a great experience. Loved the nurses, office staff, and doctors. It's definately a different experience for everyone ( as you can see from the replies!) so you might want to make appt's at both and decide for yourself who you get a better "vibe" from

I agree, I have never gone to LI IVF- but as for RSofNY in MINEOLA, I really like the staff and the DR.s there, they are REALLY Sweet to me, I guess everyone can have an off day, but so far I have seen one, I have been going there since April. SO far I have not one complaint!
Go with your gut and what you feel comfortable with.

Thank you all for your replies and FMs. I truly appreciate it. For now I'm going to stay where I am but I think I'll make an appt. for a consult at least at LI-IVF just to see how it "feels" there.

I'm partial to LIIVF. I've been to both Pt. Jeff and Melville. Love the staff! Just ignore the snooty moody receptionist!

Re: Which is better: LI-IVF or RSofNY
I have nothing to compare however I was a patient of Dr. San Roman's at RSofNY (Stony Brook office). I was very happy with my care there and I thought everyone was professional and kind and they always put my mind at ease. I went on Metformin in Sept. and luckily for me I ovulated on my own on New Year's Eve, I took the trigger shot, did 1 IUI, and I am happy to say that I am now 27 weeks pregnant. I have read not so good stories about RSofNY but in my case I had a good experience. Lots of luck to you!!
