where is your oil tank?
Just had a problem with our oil burner this morning. Since our tank is underground we are thinking of abandoning it and putting a new one outside.
Has anyone had to do this?
Any issues with an outside tank during the winter??

ours is in our basement, but i see many people with ones outside... i don't why you can't do that!

behind our house - no problems.
In fact, my in-laws just moved theirs from their basement to outside. Their old tank had a leak and their house still smells like oil months later from the spill.

Mine is outside. It should be covered but since I don't have a cover right now the oil company just adds something in the tank with every oil deliver that prevents condensation inside the tank

Make sure you have some sort of enclosure. We abadon our inground tank for an above tank last year and we literally have had no heat because of our oil jelling no less than five times, twice this month alone. We do add the chemicals at every oil fill, but on very cold days our oil jells. This summer we will be building an enclosure.

In the basement. It was originally underground, but one of our conditions when buying the house was that they abandon it and install a new one in the basement.
