sears sells women's work boots. Depending upon the type of work you want to do, I would look for steel or titanium toe boots. Also look for boots with a thick rubber sole.

The Rugged Boot in Centereach might sell them....
I don't have work boots, but I have steel-toed clogs with a back on them. I needed them for my former job and my employer sent me there for them.
The brand I have is Santina, I think.
