When you take a day off do you feel obligated to...
tell your boss what you are doing that day?
I didn't tell my boss why I was taking off and they kept hounding me on what I was doing. They were doing this all last week and then yesterday when I came back.
Do you feel like it is any of their business?

At my last job I used to have to tell my boss everything. He was basically up my butt and if I didn't have a good reason for taking off he would bust my chops. I would make myself sick everytime I had to tell him I was taking a day, going on vacation, or calling in sick.

I have a close knit relationship with my boss (small company) & usually when I take time off, I tell him what is going on. I like him to know he can get in touch with me via cell if needed. Usually they are good about it & don't call but sometimes there are crisis & they have had to get in touch with me....

Is that even legal to ask you? 
I tell my boss what kind of time off I need- sick day, vacation, but if it's personal, I say exactly that and they leave it alone.

Unless it is surgery, I don't tell them anything. If I need a Friday off (usually for a wedding), I say so.

I usually do, just because I've never taken off for anything I didn't mind sharing, and I have always had a nice relationship with my bosses, so it never bothered me.
ETA: Also, I guess in my mind I thought that if they knew why I needed off, they'd be more likely to give me the day.

My bosses dont ask but my co-workers do. I usually just tell them that I have stuff to do. It really is nobody's business.

In my opinion, its none of their business and its important to keep personal life and work separate. My current boss however, is extremely nosy and likes to know everyone's biz (I'm convinced its so she can later use it against them) - I try to be as vague as possible with her, but still giving her something so she doesn't get all POd.

I agree. Have you been taking more time than usual, or more time than you are entitled? For me I don't mind sharing the info. and usually offer a reason.
