When you don't get the best deal....

If you purchase something and then later realize that you didn't get the best deal for it, and/or the same store shortly after lowers its price, how aggressively do you pursue the price difference? What amount to you would justify going through the hassle?

I have depends on what I bought and how much the difference was. Sometimes I just let it go. I had when that happens even with food shopping, you walk feeling good only to see everything cheaper elsewhere lol

Unless it's an insane amount I'm usually too lazy to pursue it.

Almost never. It would have to be a major purchase not a $14 dollar movie.

I did it at nordstrom. I bought a dress for like 400$ and after 2 price adjustments over 6 months I ended up paying 125? It was worth the 2 minute phone call

I will fight it until I get the $ back. I'm big on sales, coupons and deals. That's how i do all of my shopping. So if I buy something and it goes on sale right after, I will get that sale price or return and buy it again if I have to.

Here's an example: my sister went to kohls WITHOUT A COUPON ( smh) spent $249. I had a coupon and told her to go back and get it adjusted. Her kohls doesn't do that. It seems each district can do as they please. Long story - I told he to return everything. I went on kohls.com and repurchased everything she had. The total was $108 w/Free shipping and she got $20 kohls cash

Totally worth it

If it's substantial - I do it.

Most stores are good about price adjustments within 2 weeks and it just takes you bringing in the receipt.

I've also repurchased and returned as well.

I try and shop sales so the savings won't be substantial.
I only presue a sales adjustment if I have to shop there or it's worth my time/gas.
I check my food shopping receipt before I leave the store be I might forget or don't want to keep the circular/receipt/item in my way.

Are you reading my mind? I was just checking my hotel to see if the rates went down. LOL. So, to answer your question, yes, I do. I won't bother over a small amount, but I do it a lot.

Depends on the amount and the store.
I just recently did a Macy's price match online which was super simple.
If it is a store I go to often, I will pursue it next time I go there.
If it involves a phone call, or a visit to the store that I dont normally shop it, it would have to be a decent amount of money for the hassle.

It truly depends on how much of a difference there is. If the item is discounted and I haven't used it yet I will return it and repurchase it but I wouldn't go through the hassle over a minimal amount.

I just rebought and then will return vtech watches from target. Total savings almost $25 - was debating whether worth the effort! But I suppose $25 is $25!

that I might do, but I never really ask for a price adjustment. If I bought it on Tuesday & it went on sale on Thursday, nobody really owes me anything for shopping on a different day.

The only time i said something is when I bought something that was on sale with a store card & they forgot to ask me for it & I forgot to give it to them. It was a buy one get one free, I think, so I asked them to void & re-ring it.

Re: When you don't get the best deal....

I went to PetSmart today to buy Advantage II for my cat. When I was there the lady told me they now make a pill instead, try it - its about the same price.

I bought it for 49.99. I went to the car to google it and see the reviews, I wasn't sure if I should have just stuck with the same old thing or tried somethting new.

On the PetSmart website the same thing was 20.57!!!

I marched right back in. I said I'm usually too lazy to come back but I didn't even leave the lot yet!! Thirty bucks cheaper!! She adjusted the price...

A similar situation happened to me at Petco yesterday. Item was $50 in store, $18 online. They honored the online price. Savings of $32.

Saved $100 the other day at HD. Online price match.

Saved $250 at Lowes about a month ago. Purchased items, they went on sale the next day plus 5% discount offer. I went back to the store and they adjusted.

Total Savings - $350

Stuff like that bothers me to no end. I'll pursue it if I can, generally I won't go back to a store to do it unless its large.

I had it happen on a laptop I bought on Amazon that was on an OK sale when I bought it on amazon, within a few days it dropped about $150 on the microsoft site (then amazon dropped the price too), and although it took 2 phone calls and escalation to a manager, I got the difference back. It took a lot of fighting since they didn't have a price match policy. I told them I'd just ship it back unopened return to sender and reorder from them.

The worst part about it was after I got the laptop, wrapped it up for my wife for the holidays, when we booted it up, it had a hardware issue and needed to be returned and they didn't have it in stock, so all that price match was for nothing. I reordered from the Microsoft site at almost the same deal since Amazon couldn't help.

I just remembered another situation. Years ago I had been eyeing a pair of $400 Frye boots. Went on Amazon one day and the price was $170. Zappos had a 110% price match guarantee. They honored their policy and I purchased 2 pairs for less than the list price of 1 pair.

There was obviously an error in pricing on Amazon's site as the price changed to $400 the next day.
