When you are addressed by a total stranger would you rather be
Addressed as Ma'am or Miss or maybe even Mami?
 
Being that I am still in my thirties- I prefer Miss over Mam.. can't stand that one..

Miss makes me feel younger, thus I like it better. 
I was called ma'am on a business call the other day, and thought, "How old do I sound???" though the guy was probably former military, given his job, and just being polite.

I'm in my mid-30's, have a wedding band on my finger, and I'm totally knocked-up.....
I think it sounds a bit silly if someone calls me miss.... polite, but silly

The funny thing about this is that the way people react to Ma'am really depends on where you are from.
Down south, a female is called ma'am out of respect... no matter what age (I think) and women do not take offense to being called that.
Then you get up here and women go crazy for being called ma'am. Personally, call me ma'am if you want I don't care... whether you think I am young or you think I am old, it's better than you calling me b!tch!

Miss.. everytime i hear maam.. i think old lady. Even if i address a stranger i say miss regardless of age, b/c i feel they would much rather hear miss than maam.. but if the person does something to make me mad, then a i say maam to them.

Either are respectful though, so I don't completely hate Ma'am, though I can see why Kevin would.

It depends on who is calling me it...
if some young kid cashier at the grocery store ma'ams me Im OK...
if it's an older person I prefer that they call me Miss...

My coworkers call me Miss Emily, it is tough getting used to the polite greeting but I am working with it. The gentlemen are all Mr and their name.
