When to tell close family?

I am trying so hard not to tell our parents yet but am squirming with excitement that I squealed to my sister in law and cousin. We just tested positive yesterday-no doctor yet and I estimate I am only 5 weeks this coming Tuesday.

Now I am worried that later our parents will learn that others knew first and be hurt but at the same time I vaguely remember my mom saying not to tell her until everything was okay by doctor.

I also have a special way planned on how to surprise our parents and worried the more I tell others the higher the chance someone will tell them before we get to.

I never thought I'd have an issue with keeping this quiet!

I told my dad after we saw a heartbeat. My mom's not alive anymore, but I don't know if I could have kept it from her until I was 8 weeks!

I called my mom right away after I got a positive result on the pregnancy test!
Me and her are very close and I can't keep anything from her!
I actually told her before I even told my DH. lol

My dad, in-laws and close family, we told after our first doctor appointment when we saw the baby's heartbeat (7weeks).

Everyone else we waited until I was 12 weeks.

I say tell them whenever you're comfortable. We told at 4 weeks.

We told as soon as we saw a heartbeat- around 6.5 weeks.

We told my parents right after I POAS but told his parents after my blood tests. My parents knew we were about to start IVF so they knew what we were going through and I would need them if it didnt work out.

We told our parent's around 6 weeks. I was having a huge party at my house and EVERYONE would be suspicious when I wasn't drinking (hmm...what does that say about me?). lol
I also felt guilty that I had told some close friends so I wanted to hurry about and tell family.

We told our parents when we found out. We were going to an re and had 2 mc earlier in the year. I would never want to go through that alone.

I told my mom the weekend after we got our positive. For me that was the right decision because I knew that if something happened, I would want her there to support me. But it is not the right decision for everyone.
DH told his brother the day after we told my mom. Then we did not tell anyone else for 5 wks.
I had some spotting in that 5 wk period and was terrified and it was nice for us both to have someone to go to and ask questions/get support.
But the decision is personal. You have to do what you are comfortable with.

We told parents, grandparents and siblings immediately. We expanded the circle to my close Aunts and cousins and so far thats where it stands. After our 12 week sono, Ill tell everyone else.

we told our parents within a week of finding out before going to the dr. and a couple of close friends/family. we told my siblings (im not that close with any) and other family at 10 weeks. We still really havent told extended family but then again I really dont speak with any of them.....im sure my mother will tell them eventually. Its a very personal choice and you have to find what is comfortable and works for you.

When I had my DS, many moons ago, my mommy was with me when I took the test.

I told my family the day I got a line on the HPT so I am probably the wrong person to ask

#1 and #2 we told after 12 weeks (we lived OOS with #1, so we waited until we were there in person)


#3 we told a little earlier, b/c I was supposed to go to a family party the day after my CVS, so I told her why I couldn't go.

Since you already told people, I wouldn't wait to tell your parents & siblings.

We told our parents early (5 weeks) but already had a sono from the RE at that point.

Everyone found out on the same day. I had to call my mom b/c DH wanted to tell his dad and everyone else right away. With my family, once one person knows..they all know.

ETA: I also didnt want the stress I was causing myself by keeping it to myself so I told my boss and co-workers a few days later.
