When to switch formulas

DD is 10 days old and pretty gassy. It's smelly too. How do I know if it's normal or if you should switch formula? Her dr said that a gassy baby is normal. She doesn't cry all day but you can tell she gets a little uncomfortable when she has to pass gas. I've been giving her some gas drops after she eats to see if that helps. She doesn't poop everyday either. I called the dr yesterday and they said to give it a couple of days. Any advice?

I never had to switch but I think 10 days is too soon to switch. They're still getting used to it.

Unless she's having a real bad reaction I'd stick with it. At that age I'd bet most formulas will make her gassy, spit up, or have some other effect. Their bodies just aren't used to it yet. My DS didn't poop everyday on formula either until close to 5 months or when we started him on solids. I tried switching formulas because he was a 'happy spitter' but my pediatrician warned us against playing the formula game. It is normal for babies to have gas. Give it some time especially if everything else is normal.

Thanks ladies! She had a huge watery yellowish brownish poop today also that went all up her back. I don't knew if that consistency is normal either. I did this 4 years ago and I feel lune it's the first time.

I think it is normal for that age. My DS had loose greenish yellow poops around that age. I feel like the poops change as they get older. He was and is still on Gerber good start.

If she's not crying she's probably fine. All babies are gassy for the first few weeks, their digestive system is newly developed and can take some time to work properly.

Any change in formula should be done with your doctors guidance, especially for a newborn.

All that said, definitely call back if you feel like something is off, always trust your instincts.
