When to go to ped with loose stools? Need help
Sorry for the tmi I have zero experience with these kinds of issues so I am not sure what to do.
Starting wed. night DS has had loose stools. This is the first and only time he has ever had this at 3.5 so it is something out of the norm for him. On wed night he had 2 and then one that was clearly diahhrea. Then, thurs, he was fine all day and then told me he had a stomach ache and then a few minutes later he went again (loose but not like the day before). This happened again before bed (again, loose but not like the first night). Now this evening, it happened twice more.
He is completely fine otherwise - no fever, no sickness, etc. He continues to seem fine all day until he has to go to the bathroom (around the normal time he usually goes). When he goes it is not liquidy but, it is very loose. Today is day 3 of this. Right before he goes he always says his stomach hurts and, at this point, the act of going is bothering him.
At what point do I take him to the ped? Is there anything the ped can do for him anyway? Thanks so much in advance - I hate this!

Re: When to go to ped with loose stools? Need help
I would suggest bananas, rice and toast for a few days. As long as he is still going "code yellow", I think its okay. Make sure he drinks a lot of clear liquid (easier said then done).
I think they make a kids pepto. I think the warning on adult pepto says not to take it if breastfeeding....something about asprin related ingrediet and asprin/infants don't mix...
Hope DS feels better soon

Thanks so much I really appreciate it.
What does "code yellow" mean? I've been feeding him mostly bagels, plain pasta, rice and yogurt. He hates bananas so I can't get that into him.

LOL! So you mean as long as he is still peeing ok then he is fine? He is - he really isn't going code brown (I'm getting the lingo now) all that much so in the sense of dehydration I think he is a-ok.

I belive the docs get worried when they don't have code yellows or lose weight.
If you would feel better, call PM Pediatrics in the morning - Selden and Plainview (google for #).
BTW - I guess when DS trips and scraps his knee, it will be a code red?

Could it be Rotovirus? It is going around and at your DS age, he may not show other symptoms.

YIKES! What do they do for this? What symptoms would he have? I hope the rest of us don't get it!
ETA: I just googled it and I really doubt this is what he has - he has no vomit at all, no fever, and he does not have severe or even moderate diahrrea and it only seems to be affecting him when he otherwise would have to use the bathroom. I think I am going to call the ped tom. just to be safe. Thanks though!
