When it Rains it pours....
I know i don't post much...but i'll admit i'm a lurker...
Yesterday I went to my OBGYN for my annual checkup but also to ask him why we have been trying for about 6 cycles now and no BFP. I went off the birth control pill earlier this year and the first few months my period was insanely heavy and the cramps were unbearable. now they have trickled down to almost nothing, although i do still get a period. Its not confirmed that I have PCOS, but he is pretty sure. I took a sonogram last night and I have two large cysts in each ovary. He told me that is probably why my period has trickled down to what is is because the cysts have gotten prgressively larger each month. I took blood tests to confirm the PCOS, among other things last night, but I won't have those results back until next Tuesday. He let me know that once he gets thos results back, depending on what we find, he will probably give me Clomid to help kick start ovulation, but this is so 50/50 with me since I know it was a miracle drug for some women and it did nothing for others I've heard so many of you talk about it and i see so many posts how it does work and doesn't so I don't know if I should hold out much hope on it but I want to try to stay positive. I guess in a good way, better that I found out early instead of trying for so long and not knowing why but it still has me down. On top of all that, I have bever had a UTI in my life, until last year. then I had another one in March, then again at the tail end of my HM in July, then again in September ...insane! So of course yesterday i asked my OBGYN about this as well and he thinks there may be something going on with my bladder, so now on the 14th i have to go in and have some sort of special exam done where they blow up my bladder with water to see if it spasms? If you made it this long, thanks for listening...and if anyone has anything positive notes on Clomid, it would be much appreciated!

They say that it can take up to a year to conceive, but you are taking some great steps and it sounds like your doc is on your team Don't worry now, because stressing doesn't do anything but stress you out. Find out what's going on and then find a solution. All good things come to those who wait

Re: When it Rains it pours....
I can say from my experience on clomid I have responded well...the last 2 cycles on 100 mg I developed 3-4 follicles...the negative for clomid for me is that it really has thinned out my lining so I have to take estrogen...if it doesnt work this cycle I will be switching to femara.
I wish you lots of luck!!!

do they test you(how? )to see if you have created any follicales? and what is femara? is it similar to Clomid?

i eat yogurt every day and drink a bottle of cranberry juice as well. The thing is they think it may not have been UTI's at all but something to do with my bladder.

Re: When it Rains it pours....
I'm sorry you are going through this!!!!!!!
UTI's can be very painful!!! I am sorry that you may have to go through that test!!! This is my second cycle on Clomid. Last month I was on 50mg and produced 1 Follicle. This cycle I am on 100mg..I am not quite there yet( I thought I was) so for a peace of mind I went in last night for a sono. So far 1 is showing but hasn't fully developed yet. They believe more follicles will produce since I am on 100mg. I just have to give it time. But Clomid can work very well!! So far it's worked for me! I just need to get pregnant now!!!

Re: When it Rains it pours....
first
the diagnosis can be tough to hear but it is just the stepping stone to the right ptath and what u need to do to get pregnant
PCOS suuck..cannot lie aboout that but it is not a end and can be treated
i did 5 rounds of clomid and did not respond so we switched to femara then to femara plus injectables
the only side effect i had on clomid was hot flashes..it was not that bad for me
people have great responses on clomid so just bc i did not respond does not mean u wont..we switched bc most docs do not want to keep u on clomid forever bc it can thin ur lining...hopefully u only need one dose
just make sure u r monitored on it..if u r not seeing a RE i suggest u do..bc clomid should not be a pill just taken and lets see what happens..u need to have blood and sonos done to see how u r responding
we are all here for you and if you ever want to talk please fm me
best of luck

Re: When it Rains it pours....
i have PCOS and clomid didnt do anything for me. clomid can be hit or miss, but if its a miss its not the end of the world. i wish someone had told me that when i did my first clomid cycle. i was soooooo sure it was gonna work, i would ovulate and get pregnant and that would be that. when i went in for monitoring and the RE told me it didnt work and i would have to go on injectables it felt like my whole world was crushed. it it took an entire year from that first clomid cycle for me to get pregnant with my sticky and it was through IVF.
im not trying to paint a bleak picture for you, but rather the opposite. there are so many many ways to make a baby. it was sooo hard for me to let go of the idea that our baby would be made in a petri dish and not in my bedroom. it was so hard that i never once did an IUI although i did 6 heavily medicated cycles. in the end, i got the baby that was meant for me, and i cant imagine having any other baby any other way. do i hope that by some miracle i get knocked up the "natural" way for #2? OF COURSE. but if that doesn't happen, i have no issues going right back to the RE and using my frozen embryos. in the end my point is, although the journey feels so hard while you are on it, don't ever forget your end goal. a vast majority of women end up with their babies, one way or another. maybe clomid will work on the first try. maybe it wont and youll find another protocol or another doctor or another way. there are many ways to make a baby and you WILL get there!!
ETA - i never had UTIs in my life either but once i had a major one and it lead to me getting them chronically (which is common). hopefully there is nothing further wrong with you, it really does become chronic.

Re: When it Rains it pours....
I'm sorry you are going through this. I just went through the same thing in the last few months. I came off the pill last November and my cycles started going crazy so the doc did a sono and bw. The bw came back good but the sono showed lots of cysts. He was going to start me on Clomid but I decided to go straight to an RE. It seems that I have poly cystic ovaries and I don't ovulate regularly but I dont have any of the other symptoms of PCOS.
This is my first cycle on Clomid and so far I've responded well. It doesnt work for everyone, but if it doesnt work for you there are other options. For me, I have 2 big follies and a few smaller ones and I'm going for my first IUI tomorrow.
I cried a lot of tears over hearing that we had fertility issues, but now I am grateful we discovered it early. Try to stay positive and fm me if you need to talk or have any questions. The girls on here are so supportive. Good luck to you!

Re: When it Rains it pours....
I'm sorry you have to go through this.

I also have PCOS and I have been taking Clomid for 6 cycles. The first cycle I responded TOO well. I ended up with 8 mature follicles! The doctor told us to not even TTC that much because the risk was way too high of multiples. Since then I have been taking a lower dosage and responding extremely well to it. Fingers are crossed that you have the same reaction

Re: When it Rains it pours....
Clomid worked wonders for me. I became pregnant my second cycle, but I miscarried. My second time trying I did a little research and read about metformin. So, I suggested it to my dr. He put me on metformin and clomid. I became pregnant the first time with twins and now I have three year old twin daughters.
My dr. also had me do some procedure before the clomid. It honestly wasn't a pleasant experience. I am not sure the name, but I had to go to a different type of dr and they made sure my tubes were all clear. Sometimes women can have infections (I believe this is it) and it can cause you to not get pregnant.

is this something that is done fairly early on with an RE as opposed to a regular OBGYN? I believe a friend of mine just had this done in July and she has been TTC for over a year now and she just started seeing a RE. But she had the procedure done after about a year of trying but she never gets her period on her own and she has to take provera and clomid (which did not work for her and she has PCOS)

My obgyn wrote the script before I started taking clomid. A month after I had the tubes blown out he put me on clomid. Then the metformin. If you have pcos you may want to look into metformin also. It helps reduce insulin levels which helps with ovulation. Here is more info
