When "if ever" is it okay for your children to use Curse Word?
Maybe it's just that curtain age for some of you.
At what age did you start cursing in front of your parents?

Re: When "if ever" is it okay for your children to use Curse Word?
My parents didn't curse around us until we were in high school... and by parents, I mean my dad, lol...
If my mom says "darn" it's a big deal
I started cursing around my parents when I was about 21.
DH and I curse in front of our DD, but never "at" anyone. I feel like if she views words as "taboo" she's more likely to try and use them, where as if she hears us say it, she'll know she can't say it until she's older (because we'll tell her)
It worked with my 4 nephews

Re: When "if ever" is it okay for your children to use Curse Word?
My parents always cursed infront of us. if it slipped out (when we talked) when we were younger they would laugh it off. F bombs were few and far between but they came out.
We started cursing infront of them in late hs. Everything except for f bombs.
Still now, f bombs have made thier way into convos only if its slipped or necessary.
My bf growing up, the dictionary was full of endless possibilities with his mom. EVERYTHING was fair game. There's where I got my sailors mouth from.
ETA: My friend and her family curse infront of her kids. One day my friends son was being babysat by his grandma and she said to him "Jonathan what are you doing" he goes " I'm F#(king coloring" it was so cute and innocent you had to laugh

Re: When "if ever" is it okay for your children to use Curse Word?
We have very bad potty mouth in my family, sad to say. We don't curse AT one another, but it seems to have been part of my faily language since I was about 12. The thing is, I knew that when it was just me and my family, it was no big deal, but if anyone else was around, I wouldn't dare use those words for fear of insulting someone else or just looking foolish. I still curse in my everyday conversations with JT, but honestly, it's very minimal now because I don't want Ava growing up and spitting those words out. I think teaching has helped me purge the habit a bit. JT on the otherhand drops F bombs like they're going out of style and he doesn't even realize it

im 24 and would still NEVER think of using curse words in front of my parents-- even though my mom talks like a trucker i find it to be disresectful. i barely even say the word "sucks"
i feel VERY VERY VERY uncomfortable in front of tens cursing in front of their parents.
its just unnecassary imo

Re: When "if ever" is it okay for your children to use Curse Word?
My parents are super religious and don't curse. My dad has actually said to me that if he hears someone curse ONE time he remembers it forever and loses all respect for them.
I have never and will never curse freely in front of them. My whole life it has slipped out MAYBE five times.

Re: When "if ever" is it okay for your children to use Curse Word?
As you know...Acerone..I am sure my kids know them===they do not say them..I guess that part of them is afraid of me..lol I would never say anything more then **** at 40 near my mom--my sister on the other hand says things that make your hair curl in front of my mom... I was brought up to think even freakin was a curse. I have cursed occasionally in front of my kids..bad bad I knowit slips sometimes. alone with friends I can have a bad mouth. I do tend to see if I m around people who curse--I will curse more.
bad habit

Re: When "if ever" is it okay for your children to use Curse Word?
I slipped when I was about 12...I was getting picked up and I was late, and I said 'sh-t' - but my reaction to my slip cracked my mom up so much that I got away with it! Good thing I was cute!
Years later though I got wacked by mom when I said the f word. Oops.

Hmmm, well if when he is learning to drive someone cuts him off or does something equally dangerous, sure, I wouldn't mind it then.

Never!
I'm 37 & still won't curse in front of elders. If I'm talking to a friend at a party one might slip. But, if I'm talking one on one to them never.

Re: When "if ever" is it okay for your children to use Curse Word?
i think i started cursing in front of my mom around 17--nothing huge....an occasional sh*t or a$$hole.
my parents didn't curse much when i was a kid---now and again...no f-bombs.
but now---i just talk normal in front of my mom. my dad---i definitely can't say the F word in front of---he gets angry. otherwise, anything else is fine.

when i got older - things like sh*t, a$$ and b*tch was OK for my parents
the only time i'll ever drop an F bomb on my parents is when we're watching the Mets or Jets together
Boosh's parents - we curse all the time

Re: When "if ever" is it okay for your children to use Curse Word?
probably around 15 or so.
As far as my children, i feel like most kids wil start to test what kind of works they can use around you at like 11 or 12 or so. At least thats what i see with my cousins, nephew etc. My Dh always tell his nephew, u can use those words when you are hanging out with your friends, but not around family and esp ladies.

Re: When "if ever" is it okay for your children to use Curse Word?
I still don't curse around my parents. They never did around us, and I feel that it's disrespectful.
I'm not sure what an "okay" age is in general. Curisng AT parents, IMO, is never okay, but just using those words in their presence... maybe high school? College age, when they're adults too?

Re: When "if ever" is it okay for your children to use Curse Word?
It is NEVER ok as far as I am concerned. I am 37 now and I don't curse in front of my mother. I find it disrespectful to the way in which my parents raised us.
I do curse now, but never in front of children and I frown upon those who do. Sorry if ya don't like it. But look at what kids get away with nowadays. Maybe if parents put more restrictions on kids, things would be a lot different. To me it IS a BIG DEAL! Crappy behavior starts somewhere.
