When does the mega immunity kick in?
DD1 did not get sick until she started daycare when she was 1. Since then, it's been a fall/winter/early spring seasons filled with ear infections, colds, etc. etc.
I am also a teacher so I brought home A LOT of cooties last year, despite my best efforts. I (touch wood) have a pretty strong immune system since I am teaching so long.
I am on child leave this year but DD1 is in nursery school. She has been on antibiotics 3 times in the past 3 months! And, she seems to be coming down with ANOTHER cough. We practice good habits with washing hands, surfaces, etc.
Many people say that kids in daycare have the best immune systems later on----- how much longer???

I heard by kindergarten/ first grade.
DD is only one, so I can't say for us, just what I've heard!

Re: When does the mega immunity kick in?
I heard it was after the first year in daycare/school.
My DS was in daycare until he was 15 months old and got sick/colds then. He was out until preschool and (knock wood) he's been fine ever since and he's in first grade

When does the mega immunity kick in?
My DS was in daycare at 8 weeks and he was sick monthly. He rarely gets colds anymore. Stomach things are another story

When does the mega immunity kick in?
I don't think it always works that way, unfortunately. My cousin was in daycare since 8 weeks and still gets sick frequently in kindergarten.

Re: When does the mega immunity kick in?
I think that's an old wives tale. Some kids just seem to get sick more often than others. Sorry

I have to agree. Some daycare kids I know are still getting sick all the time in 2nd grade. Some don't get sick much. Same for kids with nannies or SAHMs. Doesn't seem like a clear trend either way.
Besides, the whole "mega immunity" thing makes no sense. If it was true, at a certain age.. maybe middle school... NO kid would ever get more than a sniffle since they've all been exposed to so much at that point.

I agree with this, I think it just depends from kid to kid.
My DD is the actually the opposite, she was never in daycare or even a formal Pre-K and she started Kindergarten this year. So far she has had one cold all school year, knock on wood.
I think some people/kids have a better immunity than others, for whatever reason. I actually expected my DD to be sick more, I'm surprised so far at how this school year is going!

I agree with this one hundred percent. Certainly hasn't held true in my own life or family/friends. Actually, I find the opposite to be true - seems like some kids always get sick, and some just don't.

When does the mega immunity kick in?
I have to say i think its an old wives tale... i mean even though being in daycare they are exposed to more direct contact with other children. Sahm moms are not literally sitting at home. They are out at stores and mommy and me classes exposed to just as many germs. Kids will be kida and need to touch everything. I think some of it is just based on the child.
