When do you use sunscreen?
I know the answer is SUPPOSED to be always.... but when do you apply sunscreen? If you're taking your DC for a walk around the block, about 15 min. in length, or if they are in the unshaded backyard while DH is bbq'ing dinner (maybe 20 min.), do you apply?

Re: When do you use sunscreen?
I do not in the situations you described.
But DD has very olive skin and rarely ever burns. If she was more fair, and prone to burning quickly, I might reconsider.
I basically only put it on her for the beach/pool or if we are going to be outside for a longer period of time mid day (playing at the park, bike riding etc).
I don't put it on her if we are going to be outisde after 3 or 4 pm If you are outside bbq-ing dinner, i would imagine it's already later in the day so i wouldn't

When do you use sunscreen?
Walk around the block in the middle of the day in summer I probably would.
Hanging while you grill assuming it's late in the day I wouldn't.

Pretty much whenever we go outside longer than 5 minutes. We are all very fair skinned. I wish my parents had been stricter with sun screen when I was younger.
ETA: I have a family history of skin cancer - melanoma. My grandfather, uncle, and sister.

This. DD is VERY fair and would burn if she went more than 5 minutes. She wears a sun hat outside as well.

Re: When do you use sunscreen?
i've been putting it on in the morning before the kids leave for school and for myself and DD who is 2 if i know we will be playing outside or going to for a walk i also put it on. I do not put it on again when the kids get home from school if they want to play outside or if we are out bbqing in the evening. Sometimes I will apply if its still sunny and my son or daughter have a sports practice at 5 or 6.

Re: When do you use sunscreen?
On sunny days I apply to them all in the morning before they go out and play. I then reapply if they are out a lot in the afternoon. They are very light skinned.

When do you use sunscreen?
DS 1- only if we're outside for an extended period of time. I'm not sure how since we haven't seen much sun but, he's managed to get a nice tan already...
DS 2- any time he goes outside during the day. He is so pale.

Re: When do you use sunscreen?
Only if we will be in the sun between 10-3pm in summer for an extended period of time, like at a pool/beach or a midday playground outing. if there's some shade and DC will be in and out of sun in the backyard playing for a bit i wouldn't put it on. We usually don't take walks during peak sun times anyway but if we do i use the stroller's sun shade and would do sunblock just on the legs.
i definitely don't think any level of sunburn is acceptable for children but i don't mind some sun exposure for vitamin D. DC is fair but seems to get a little brown in summers.
