when AF starts or the day it ends?

I usually start like a day before AF ends. Really you can temp the entire time you have AF but the temps will usually be wacky.

yeah im probally gonna have to do when it ends b/c ive had a high temp for the last 24 hours and who knows what will go on the next few days

You can but during AF most people notice that their temps are pretty wacky and all over the place.

Your temps can be a little nutty during AF. That, and if you've been temping awhile and are exhausted and need a few days "off," that's the time to do it.
Women with longer cycles don't O right after AF disappears anyway. If you have shorter cycles, I'd start on CD1 b/c you O earlier and want to make sure you catch the egg.
