When do babies "typically" start to suck their thumb?
Paxton does the cutest thing where he sucks his thumb and pointer knuckles. I t looks as if he wants to suck his thumb but can't tuck his other fingers under. Just wondering if this is HIS way of doing it or if it's too early????

Re: When do babies "typically" start to suck their thumb?
Around 3 or 4 months, both my kids were thumb suckers! My DS stopped at about 16 months old, all on his own. My DD just turned 3 and she's doing it more now than ever

Re: When do babies "typically" start to suck their thumb?
DD was doing it in utero and from day one on the outside. I have a really cute 3D sono where she is clearly sucking her thumb.
Now at 21 months she does is only when she is falling asleep.

Re: When do babies "typically" start to suck their thumb?
My DD sucked her 2 fingers from 4 months to 21 months. Last October she got a cold and stopped doing it cold turkey. She did the same thing with the pacifier too.

Re: When do babies "typically" start to suck their thumb?
I have 3D sono pics of my DD sucking her thumb in the womb. She was born and was trying to suck her thumb right away. It took a little bit for her to get the coordination to get it in her mouth each time but she figured it out. At 8 months she still sucks her thumb to calm herself down and when she's falling asleep.
EDIT - spelling

Re: When do babies "typically" start to suck their thumb?
my ds started sucking just his thumb at 4 days old! i though this was crazy early but wasn't sure b/c my older ds never sucked his thumb or a paci. at 8 weeks he still does it when he doesn't have his binkie.

DD sucked her thumb in utero. Minutes after she was born, I heard her sucking her thumb Now at 14 weeks, she's been trying to putting her whole hand in her mouth
