When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
Talk to me about it.
Till what age did you keep them in there? Did you have to wean them off of it? Did they just get too big? How big where they? Did you replace it with some other soothing/entertaining device?
DS wont nap in crib, and only wants to nap in the swing. We are approaching 3 months. Is it too early to wean him off the swing? Do you just let him have the swing till 6 months and then CIO to the crib?
The thing is he STTN for 6 hours in crib, then only wants to sleep in the swing.
My mom is also complaining that he wont nap in his bassinet when he's with her, that I spoiled him with the swing. I might invest in Newborn-to-Toddler Portable Rocker
Is it a bad idea, should we try to encourage him to nap, flat, on crib/bassinet more?
Need advice/opinions... TIA!

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
Madison was out of the swing around 3 or 4 months but that was only because she was too big! She would try and flip herself out of it... even strapped in she would try and turn over and at one point somehow managed to get herself hanging off
Thast the only reason.. if she would have napped in the swing and fit I would have kept her in it!
I didn't replace it with anything, just tried to get her used to naps in her crib! She's still not a big napper so I dont get long stretches out of her but that's the only place she sleeps now.. besides the carseat.

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
Shana, we let DD fall asleep in the swing but we only let her nap in there, we don't let her sleep there at night. At night she sleeps in this:
Fisher-Price Newborn Rock & Play Sleeper
It says NB, but it goes up to 25 lbs. It is the best thing ever because she is cradled, unlike in the crib.
We have that NB to Toddler Rocker that you posted also, she will nap in that sometimes as well, she loves the vibrations.
We just got this yesterday:
Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Deep Blue Sea Space Saver Swing & Seat
It's great because it's small, and it's both a swing and vibrating seat in one (you can lock the seat and turn on the vibration when it's not swinging).
Don't worry about weaning him from these things yet - you have plenty of time. We don't plan on weaning DD for a while. We know she can sleep in the crib, but it's more comforting to her to sleep in the rocker because she is cradled. They are still so little, I want her to be comfortable as long as possible!

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
DD pretty much only napped in the swing until about 5 months (and took great naps in there - sometimes 2.5-3 hours!)... we never put her to sleep at night in it though.
Around 5 months she was sitting up and getting too big for the swing so we started putting her to nap in her crib for some naps. At first she'd only sleep 40 mins or so in the crib so for her 2nd nap I'd put her in the swing. Then a few weeks into napping in her crib she just got used to it and by 6 months was only napping in her crib... 2-3 hour naps... and still does.

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
DS napped in his swing until he was 5.5 months. After that we transitioned him to his crib for naps (he was already sleeping in his crib at night time). Around the same time, we had to do CIO at night time. It was a rough few days, but he adjusted. I wouldn't rush it. You will know when it's time.

I agree - it just got to the point where DS was ready to nap in his crib b/c night sleep was going so well. I had lots of pressure from my mom to make him nap in his crib. So, I figured I'd give it a try. I think I did it around 4.5 months. I'm happy I did b/c now he can nap anywhere! He isn't dependent on the motion or coziness of a swing.

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
We put the swing away around 6 months because my DD could careless about it anymore. I used the FP Newborn to Toddler Rocker a lot too in the beginning............it was the ONLY thing my DD would sleep in for naps and at night. We would actually put it in the cradle at night and the pack n play bassinet during the day. We moved my DD into her crib at 12 weeks old with no problem, she slept great all night. However, it took a little longer for her to take naps in the crib. She was a few months old before she would nap in her crib. Most of the time she was napping in the den in her Toddler Rocker. My feeling when they are young is........whatever works and whatever gets them to sleep.

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
DS is 6 months and almost done with the swing.
He likes to stretch and turn while he falls asleep so we've started to put him in his crib for naps. He will only sleep in the swing if we moved him to it-he rarely falls asleep in it anymore. More likely he falls asleep on the floor and we move him to the swing to get him off the floor so DD doesn't attack him.

DD is also 7 months and still napping in the swing. She's only used it for naps though and she does also nap in her playpen and crib once in a while, but never as good as in that swing of hers. I LOVE that thing . We are slowly weaning her off of it though - I think it will be easier for her than it will be for me.
I think at 3 months you're still okay.

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
Thanks! Its just pressure from Mom and MIL who are convinced that I spoiled DS rotten with the swing.
He sleep like an angel at night, and without any coaxing from us, a solid 6 hours. If I get the dreamfeeding right he goes as far as 10 hours.
But during the day, he fights and fights, doesn't want to sleep, anywhere, but the swing.
Mom and MIL sometimes watch him during the day, when I ask them if I should bring a portable swing to them, they say "no way, you spoiled him enough" ...

Funny you mention that b/c my mom told me I better go buy a portable swing for when she watches DD b/c she loves the swing! I have put DD in her crib for naps once she is already asleep and she is fine. I was going to get the swing for nightime but honestly she has been doing alright in the bassinet so I figured what's the point. Good luck, and use the swing for what it's worth now!
ETA: BTW tell your mom and mil that most studies show that you CANNOT spoil babies under 3months!!!!

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
DS has been out of the swing for about 6 weeks now. He got too heavy for the batteries to keep up. Sucks for me because he would nap in it for 2-3 hours...He is now 7 months old and naps mostly wherever I can get him to sleep...

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
My DS still uses the swing and he's 8 months today! He rarely sits in it anymore though, he's sort of outgrown it himself, he's not that interested in it anymore. We did stop putting him in there over the last 2 months bc he was gaining weight fast and would outgrow the 25 lb weight limit. My DS didn't nap in the swing too much though.
The FP newborn-toddler rocker is a good thing to have bc its a place for them to sit. Put in a noggin nest to help with the flat head. I would encourage him to nap laying down if he has no reflux issues. Then again, he's only 3 months and honestly, they change quite a bit. My DS wasn't napping in his cradle or PNP bassinet at that point (even though he used to). Use the swing if you need to. Do whatever you need to. I started putting my DS in the crib to nap around 3-4 months and now that's where he always naps and he goes down easily. Start introducing things slowly and don't worry too much about spoiling him just yet.
ETA: Do you swaddle? We had to stop swaddling at night at about 3 months bc DS would break out of the swaddle but he was still swaddled for naps until about 5 months. As soon as I would start swaddling him for a nap, he'd turn his head and fall asleep.

I swaddle for his night sleep. He actually smiles at me when I swaddle and gives a big yawn. My swaddles are impossible to break free from ;)
I put him in crib drowsy but awake. The difference is, at night, he'll whine for 10 seconds and pass out for 6 hours. Daytime, he'll do the same thing, whine, then pass out, but only sleep for 10 minutes and then start all over again. It escalates to a full blown cry when he gets frustrated and I pull him out cuddle and give up to the swing.

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
We took DS1 out of the swing (packed it up and put it away) at 5 weeks because he had torticollis.
DS2 goes in the swing at daycare (which I hate but they can't hold him all day) but he gets fussy after more than 45 minutes because he doesn't go in much at home. He sleeps in his crib at night and for 2 out of the 3 naps he takes at home.
By 6 months I expect to pack up the swing. Then he has to take all naps in the crib like his brother did.

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
DS stopped napping in the swing on a regular basis by 6-7 months. If he was really congested, he'd sometimes sleep in there at 9 or 10 months. He's a peanut and was well under the weight limit at that point. You've got time to wean him from the swing.

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
DS still naps in the swing at 5.5 months but, I don't think he'll be in it too much longer because he's starting to move around too much. We were on vacation last week so we did some transitioning into the pack n play (with blankets) and bouncy seat and it went well, but, not as good as teh swing (we didn't have the option of the swing on our trip).

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
My kids sat in the swing until about 7 months-they do have weight limits so you can look that up. If they would fall asleep for naps, I would transfer them into their cribs

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
My DD loved the swing but always slept in her crib or bassinet at night. Once nighttime sleep was well established, which was pretty early on for her, I started transitioning her to swaddling for naps and also putting her in the crib. We always swaddled at night but never during the day - it was one way we helped her learn the difference btw night and day and I wanted her to associate it with sleep, which she did so it became great for naps then too. The transition was not bad - I started with one nap in the crib a day and she quickly started preferring it. This all happened btw 2 and 3 months old. Shortly after 3 months, we said goodbye to the swaddle - she would break out and wake herself up and it became a hindrance - she really liked to stretch out. I sort of wish she still took to the swing (or the swaddle) because she's such an inconsistent napper and often a catnapper now but she seems to have no interest anymore at 4.5 mos. Sometimes I think we said goodbye to the swing a little too early but her naps have been improving recently so who knows - might be better in the long run without it.

Re: When did you stop putting your infant in swing?
My DD is just 5 months and she is definitely getting too big, but we still use it to rock her to sleep every now and again. The problem is that she sits straight up in it now, so I think she is too big
