When did you start taking pre-natal classes, and which classes?

Just trying to figure out what kinds of classes we should be taking, and at what point in the pregnancy.

Thanks!

The only class DH and I look was the lamaze/child birthing class that was offered by my OBGYN. The nurse from labor and delivery facilitated the class and it was awesome! We got some free stuff and we felt so much more prepared.

DH and I took an Early Pregnancy class when I was about 15 weeks @ Good Sam. We starting taking a 5 week Lamaze/Childbirth Class at 30 weeks @ Good Sam. And I will be dragging him to a Breastfeeding Class when I am 33 weeks. I'll all about having as much info as possible! Chat Icon

We took a class called the ABC’s of Going Home
with your Baby as well as a Prepared Childbirth class both at Overlook hospital around the 24/25 week mark. We did it on the earlier side because I knew I was at risk for bed rest.

I also registered for a breastfeeding class, however since I ended up on bed rest earlier than I thought we did not get to attend that class.

We also took a tour of the hospital we are delivering at.

We found the classes to be very interesting and helpful.

we bought 3 DVDs (laugh and learn childbirth, basic infant care, happiest baby on the block).

We also attended a lactation class at SBU hospital, and baby belly's infant CPR class.

I only started organizing these classes / dvds around 28 weeks-ish... and we attended the last class (infant CPR) last week (35 weeks).

Re: When did you start taking pre-natal classes, and which classes?

for me, the lactation class was FREE and the baby belly was something like $35/person......

the most expensive class by far is a labor class. they usually have weekly sessions, take a lot of time per session, and cost a couple hundred $$. Chat Icon

Frankly, DH and I don't want to spend that kind of money, and we really don't have THAT kind of time. the DVD fits our lifestyle much better.....

We took out childbirthing and parenting classes at week 25 - they were 8 weeks long, 2 hours every Monday. They were the best classes EVER offered by my OB practice. They told us everything and covered every topic including breastfeeding and postpartum care for mom and baby. They also took us on a hospital tour that helped ease my anxiety about being in a hospital.

We took the Infant/Child CPR class ($35), Breastfeeding class (FREE), and Lamaze class ($125 for one day class) all at about 30-31 weeks.

Re: When did you start taking pre-natal classes, and which classes?

My OBs office already scheduled classes for me/us. I will be taking my child birth class 2 hours per week for 5 weeks starting the beginning of December, and a breastfeeding class in mid January.

Re: When did you start taking pre-natal classes, and which classes?

I wish someon had a twins class but I can't find one. I think we are taking infant care. I am already certified in Infant CPR but DH is not so I think we will take that. I also want to take a BF'ing class. My friend just had a baby 3 weeks ago so she gave me a mini class last night but I want to be safe!

Re: When did you start taking pre-natal classes, and which classes?

Me, DH and his mom are planning to take the infant/child CPR class offered at our local highschool in the early fall.

I will take lamaze when I am further along to know that I am going to need it and not having a planned c-section.

Melissa, you should check out sites like meetup.com and even do a search online for twins stuff. (Or start your own through Craigslist!!).
I am sure there has to be something out there.......

Re: When did you start taking pre-natal classes, and which classes?

I plan on taking classes on childbirth, BFing, infant CPR and possibly one on childcare. I haven't signed up for any yet, but I'll be taking them sometime during the 3rd trimester.

Re: When did you start taking pre-natal classes, and which classes?

I will be honest. I only took a breast feeding class and the hospital tour for DD. The breast feeding I did a little early since my SIL was pregnant with me a couple of months before. I think I went at 24 weeks. The hospital tour I took at about 30 weeks. They also preregistered you at that point so all you had to do was check in on the big day.

But no childbirth classes to speak of- couple of episodes of Emergency as a child and some ER was all I had to go on.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Edited to add- my breast feeding class was $25 since they gave you a book and a bunch of take home stuff.
