When did you start packing?

We have a closing date of on or around Feb. 28th. I'm a bit anal and tend to plan way ahead. I would love to start packing some things up in the next two weeks. DH thinks I'm nuts and thinks we should wait until we get an official closing date. Half my stuff is in storage and half of it is with us at my parents' house. When did you start packing?

If you are eager to start - go for it.

You may also appreciate the extra time to go through things. Now is a perfect time to get rid of old clothes, things you don't use, etc.

Re: When did you start packing?

You'll be much better off starting now! We packed at the very last minute. We were in a one bedroom and have a toddler and just didn't think it was safe to have boxes around etc. If you can - the sooner the better!

We are living in the upstairs of my parents with my 18 month old. I just don't know where in the world I'd put the boxes. We have stuff spread all over the house. I am dreading the kitchen b/c we brought most of our own stuff (we do the nightly cooking for the house). The thought of living amongst boxes in such a confined space is enough for my head to spin. I am thinking about slowly packing up my closet. The toys and kitchen will have to be last. We also have the option of moving over slowly which is also why DH is in no rush. It is amazing how much crap you accumulate in a year, especially with a LO. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: When did you start packing?

I would start now. It takes a long time to pack and I completely agree with the other girls. I would create a pack, donate, trash pile. Take this as an opportunity to really decide whether you want it. Does it need it repaired?

I would get a bound book and create a list for yourself. Write in the book what is in each box. This way you can go back know what is where. I numbered each box and I color coded by room and wrote a brief description of what is in the box on the outside of the box too. It really helps.

ITA!! I couldn't believe the mount of stuff we had...we did throw out a lot of stuff...why don't you start getting rid of things you don't need...I donated 5 bags of clothes and got rid of so much junk before I started packing. Start with things you don't use a lot.

Re: When did you start packing?

I didn't start packing until we actually closed. Too many things can go wrong (although our process was actually problem-free) and so I was hesitatant to start packing. It's almost like I couldn't believe we were about to move into our own home.

But, when we 1st moved from NYC to LI, before our house, we weren't buying so I started packing a few weeks before.

I just went though my closet last week and got rid of 2 bags. It was an attempt to get DH moving. Chat Icon
