When did you know it was time ...
to begin to TTC? Both me and DH really want to have kids but are nervous about it. I know it's normal to be nervous and scared if this is the right time. I don't necessarily think there is a "right" time. Any thoughts, ideas, advice.

Re: When did you know it was time ...
Good question. Well for DH and I, since it is his 2nd marriage and my 1st, and b/c we are both in our 30's [me- 33, he- 34,] we both knew we wanted to start as soon as possible. He also has 3 children from his 1st marriage...and he loves children, so he was gung-ho about giving his sweeties another sibling! To be honest, I am nervous too but I do know that I have always wanted kids so I figure, now is as good a time as any!! Good luck!

Re: When did you know it was time ...
Thanks for the response...I feel like now is as good of a time as any...we are fairly young (me - 24 in April and DH 27 in July) so I think that may also be an issue considering most of our friends and people around us are no where near where we are in our lives in terms of being settled or on some sort of "path" in life ... thanks again for the advice

Dh is 25, and I am 22, we have been married a little over a year now. We talked about ttc for a long time, but it never seemed like the right time, we were living in a small condo, and both wanted new cars, and there always seemed to be some sort of credit card bill, and dh just didnt want to have a baby if we werent totally financially secure. Well we eventually bought a big house, with tons of room for kids, and we caught up on those bills, and he has a new car out in the driveway, but it still didnt seem like the right time, we had so much to do with packing, and hiring a moving co, and trying to get all of our things together, life was just too hectic to have a baby. Then we thought about our friends, everyone is our age, and most still live at home with their parents, they dont have half the responsibilities that we do, and we are already having a hard time relating to them, who are we going to talk to when we actually have a kid? We cant go to these people who have no idea what we are going through could we?
And thats when we realized, there is never really going to be a perfect time. If we kept waiting around for it to come, we may never have kids, whos to say whats going to happen, after you finally have everything in your life in order, you may go out and total your car, or your house may go up in flames, you cant predict these things. And our friends, we cant let them plan our lives out for us, maybe this kind of life isnt what they had in mind.
So amongst the chaos of moving 600 miles from everyone we know, I got my bfp, and honestly since then, life has seemed pretty perfect.

Re: When did you know it was time ...
Hmmm
Well it could be when I turned 30 people told me my ovaries would dry up and get all pruny.
OR
It could have been when I hadn't been married yet and my mom told me to go have an affair and get pregnant in attempts to have me move back home.
OR
When my co-workers told me that I didn't need a man to have a baby and I could do it all on my own.
BUT
I decided to wait until after I got married at 35, wait a few months until the balance of our wedding expenses were covered and we were stable. It wasn't going to happen any other way.
There were absolutely no way any outside influences would make it happen any sooner. I couldnt care less if either side of our family didn't have any grandchildren. We would not have children to satisfy a family member's need to have a namesake or a burning desire to have grandchildren or a niece or a nephew. Children change EVERYTHING and the decision to be a parent is perhaps the most important decision two people can make. If two people are not ready, then it may not be a good decision at all. Some people can rise above and make it work if presented with a "surprise," but as for me, I do not like surprises. I need to be prepared. I am prepared now.

Re: When did you know it was time ...
Well we have a 2.5 year old daughter & we were just married. We want our kids fairly close in age & we learned from our daughter that you can never be completely ready to have children. We decided that this is as ready as we'll be anytime soon & we're going for it.
