When did you feel safe...sitting question
When did you feel safe sitting DC on the floor with toys and walking away? DS has been sitting for about a month and a half, but been really sturdy for about 2 weeks. If I am sitting there maybe he will fall to the side when he is laughing. I have hard wood floors so I am afraid of letting him sit by himself and hitting his head.

Re: When did you feel safe...sitting question
I let DD sit in our LR (it's carpeted) and I'll walk away to check on dinner or grab something, but I don't leave her too long. She's really sturdy and hardly ever falls, but I do usually put her boppy or a pillow behind her just in case. Did you try that?

Re: When did you feel safe...sitting question
I use to put the boppy around their body so if they did fall it was cushioned. After they were sitting for about 2 weeks with no real tipping I stopped using the boppy. By the time they turned 5 months they both didn't need the boppy anymore.

Re: When did you feel safe...sitting question
I used to put pillows around him when he was still occasionally flopping over and walk away. That way, if he tipped, all he hit were pillows.

Re: When did you feel safe...sitting question
I only put him newly sitting on his playmat that was over carpet so it had extra cushion. I never felt safe with him on wood floor till he was 100% sitting and also able to get from sitting to crawling.

ETA.. I also put his boppy behind him, but being the nervous mom I'd still sit right there b/c I feared him falling face into the pillow and not get up. Can you tell I worried b/c he was a late sitter.
Now the kid is running everywhere and I'm a lot less worried... of course he falls and bumps himself on things no matter what

Re: When did you feel safe...sitting question
With DD#1 we lived in an apt with wood floors. If I had to leave the room i'd put pillows around her in case she fell.
With DD#2 all the rooms are carpeted so I feel comfortable leaving her for a few mins. Sometimes she falls over, most times she stays sitting.
She has been sitting for over a month now unassisted.

Re: When did you feel safe...sitting question
I was putting pillows behind him but I am just wondering, what made you have the guts to remove the pillows. I just feel like he is totally fine to sit by himself w/o pillows, but something in side of me says as soon as I take those pillows away he is going to fall over!

Re: When did you feel safe...sitting question
We have carpet now, but with DS, I think I felt comfortable around 8 months. He was still not 100% steady sitting up at 7 months. DD has been on her own since 6 months - if she flops over it's onto the carpet and she laughs so I know it's okay
