when did you drop from 4 bottles to 3?

DD is 8 months. She has 4 8oz bottles a day, but no longer finishes them. When should I start weaning down to 3 bottles? And which is the first to drop?

Never. Chat Icon My DD stuck with 4 bottles until she dropped bottles at 17 months. She had a bottle before breakfast, lunch, and dinner and one last bottle about 45min to an hr before bed. Maybe try going down a few ounces but keeping the number of bottles the same. I would try 6oz bottles instead of the 8oz.Chat Icon

I don't have an answer for you, but I am glad you asked this question bc I have been thinking about dropping one of DD's bottles too. I was thinking I'd drop one of the midday ones and adjust the timing a little on the other one.

I dropped one of the afternoon bottles when I started giving her purees for lunch, she was about 7 months. She was previously only getting purees in the morning and at dinner time.

DS dropped to 3 bottles around 10 months. If we gave lunch (purees) then he wouldn't drink it and if we gave the bottle then he wouldn't eat the purees. So he basically dropped it on his own after he started eating more solids.

Dd just dropped to three last month when we started with 3 meals. She was just over 6 months. I didn't have to adjust her at all. She just wasn't hungry for it.

Why not start dropping bottle to 6 oz if not finishing. I would start dropping the mid day bottle. Keep breakfast, dinner, night.

Drop the midday bottle

I dropped at 7 months. She would never finish it. She has 3 8 oz bottles now still at 11 months.

I at a similar spot. DD on,y drinks about 3 of the 6 oz. I make for her. But our pediatrician wants us to stay at 4 for awhile longer because she eats like nothing at her meals (maybe a half an ounce of finger foods) - she said once we feel that she is eating enough we can consolidate the 2 middle bottles into one.

When DS dropped to 3 bottles he was eating approximately 5 jars a day plus cereal at 2 meals. He started transitioning to table food soon after we dropped to 3 bottles.

how big are her bottles??

DS was doing 5 6oz bottles, we started offering 4 8oz bottles instead, usually leaves a little so he is still getting 30 maybe a little more. I expect once we add a 3rd meal he will start leaving more.

Re: when did you drop from 4 bottles to 3?

Usually 6 ozs. I give her 3 meals a day, she doesn't necessarily eat all of it but I offer her solids.

Breakfast is 4tbspns oatmeal mixed with 2oz of formula and a 4oz fruit purée.

Lunch is a 4oz yogurt and 4oz veggie purée.

Dinner is two different kinds of veggie purées (4oz each), or one 4oz veggie purée and tiny pieces of something--usually chicken, avocado or a banana (we just started introducing more solid foods).

I offer 10 ounces in each of her three bottles, but she usually only drinks a little over 8 (except for bedtime when she tends to drink all 10).

3 x a day with meals. Usually fruit and cereal for lunch then a snack like puffs. Then a jar for lunch usually like chicken and sweet potatoes. Then some sort of vegetable Jar at dinner. So 3 bottles a day, 3 meals a day and ped said up to two snacks per day.

We just saw the ped today and he wants us to keep the 4 bottles until 9 months when he recommends adding a 3rd meal. DS gets 4 - 7oz bottles and he doesn't finish all of them. He gets a meal at 10am and once at 6pm. Depending on what he's doing at 9 months the goal is to move to 3 meals and 3 - 8oz bottles.

Hmmm... DD doesn't really take puree much anymore so maybe she's not getting as much solids. We were just at the ped and they didn't say anything so I'm not going to drive myself nuts. She's growing and thriving and eating table foods. She just likes her milk!

Definitely dont drive yourself nuts! If my DD were finishing bottles, I wouldnt think of dropping one but she is consistently only drinking about half of her midday ones so I am wasting a lot of formula.

How does everyone get their kids to eat? DD is done after like 4 baby spoonfuls of purée or a half ounce of chopped up finger food! She eats 5 Cheerios max!

You may want to offer more smaller meals. How old I'd DD?
