When decorating, what do you choose first?

We are redoing our bathroom, all new fixtures, faucets, lightning, and i love the paint coloe BM Weekend Getaway (that JLdDolphin used in her bathroom). But not sure what to use as a contrast color, and i want to stay away from brown have blue and brown in too many rooms. But i have been told you need to pick a curtain you like and then pick a paint color. Or accessories, then a paint color and so on.
So what color do I use with the BM weekend Gateway, for towels and accessories?

It is a great color! I usually pick the paint color first. For a bathroom I think I would still pick the paint color first. With a bedroom I would pick the bedding first and then coordinate the paint with the bedding.

Anyway, ok so no blue. Well you can do a lighter green. I have lighter green towels. Or you could do a buttery yellow with it. Nothing bright at all. Of course you can do a Burnt Orange. That would look really nice. HTH!

I've always heard to pick the paint color last. It's much easier to find a matching shade in paint with all the choices.

but everyone told me to pick backsplash tile last and I found some that inspired me and I built my kitchen around it.

We are doing carpet and paint. It is harder to match carpet to paint than paint to carpet IMO.

i think you should start with what you love the most first. like if you found tile you absolutely love, start with that then decorate around that. If you found towels that you love then decorate around that. things usually fall into place when you begin with something you love.
