WHEN and HOW did you ween your DC off the bottle?

My ped recommended weening DD off the bottle by 15 months, but I kind of created a monster...my little girl gets a bottle before naptime (2x a day) and bedtime.

I tried cold turkey before her naps, but that didn't go over too well.

What did you girls do? Any suggestions?

I just started with the afternoon bottle and switched it to a sippy and then the morning. I am still working on the nightime bottle but I am not in a hurry with that.

I took my ds off at 9 and a half months it was cold turkey, one day I just gave him is formula in the sippy and that was it. He has never missed the bottle. Good Luck.

DD is now 18 months and still takes bottles. I have put milk in a designated sippy cup for her but we have to play this game where i pretend to drink and then she drinks. It works for about 2 oz at a time.

I have given my DD water in a sippy cup since she was 10 mos or so to get her used to it. We went cold turkey right after her first birthday. She had 2 days or so where she had little milk intake but after that it was smooth sailing.

At 12 months, the week I found out I was pregnant we started.

Nightime was always the toughest.

First we stopped giving him milk in a bottle & only put water.

We gave milk or watered down juice in a sippy cup or a regular cup (while I held it).

There is always a reason to not make a change (illness, teething, new baby, new environment). I think it's best to go cold turkey once you see they can drink from a cup. The longer you put it off, the harder & longer the transition.

12 months, I just threw them out.

I would probably just try cold turkey and throw them out so you are not tempted to give in!!!

Can yuo put formula in a sipper cup? Which cup do you use,,the one with a straw?

DD is 12 months & drinks water out of sippy cups but refuses to drink milk. She spits it out. So we're sticking with the bottle for now. I do not give her milk before bedtime. Her last bottle is right after dinner, then we play, take a bath & brush teeth. I didn't want her having milk after I brush her teeth.

we replaced the mid afternoon bottle first with a sippy, then the morning bottle, and at 14 1/2 months old when she had a stomach bug, we were giving her fluids in a cup only.....

and that was that....

Around 15 months--cold turkey. I had been giving water in a sippy for a while before that. Like a PP had said, her milk consumption dropped for a while, but she loooovvvees milk now!!

At 21/22 months pretty much cold turkey. He got sick - an ear infection - didn't really want a bottle and that was my cue.

He didn't miss them at all. It took a couple of days before he would drink the milk from a cup though. He never wanted any part of milk in a sippy.
