When 5 yr. old daughter is out with your husband & needs to use the bathroom

What does he do? Does he take her into the mens room? Make sure no one is at the urinals? or does he let her go in the ladies room alone and just stand outside the door?

DD very rarely goes out with DH alone because im usually home and all five of us go out together. But he would take her in the mens room. 5 is too young IMO to go into a public restroom alone, even with us standing outside the door.

My children are still younger but I would expect my husband to take her into the men's room at 5yo.

Stall in men's room if there isn't a family room.

Thank you for your responses! This is an argument going on with my daughter & son in law. He thinks it's ok to send her into the ladies room alone! and my daughter doesn't! He's a cop.... you'd think he'd be a little more cautious. They had stopped at Friendlys last night and he took her in to get a cake for my daughter. When they came out, he told her she had to "go" and he let her go in herself. Needless to say, this caused quite a spat!

I dunno, normally I would say no way, but it's Friendly's, the bathrooms are tiny in there, and with him standing outside the door, I think it's fine. Now Target, or a shopping mall, no way!

Same, he's been doing that since she was potty trained and still does it at age 6 if he has to. That is way too young to use the bathroom alone IMO.

He takes her into the men's room. At that age, no way I'd want her in the ladies room alone even if DH was waiting outside. Anything can happen while she's alone in there.

I have two boys and I take them in the ladies room so why wouldn't a dad take them to the men's room stall?

We go out with friends who have girls and their dad always takes them to the men's room. They are 6 and 3.

This.

My 6 year old prefers going into the mens room when we are out. At certain places (small, single bathrooms) I let him - but, at larger places, I take him into the ladies room.

i have a 5 year old DS, and i'm a SAHM--- so Im always out with him and take him into the ladies room.
BUT i can see why a dad wouldn't want to take a daughter into a public men's room. with the whole urinal aspect, and less stalls than in the women's room.... i would be worried about the young girl seeing things on her way to the stall. I know its the human body and normal--- but still i could see how somebody wouldn't want their 5 year old little girl seeing a grown man's "stuff" LOL But if its in a smaller place, lie friendly's--- i don't see the huge deal of him taking her into the men's room.
Fnny story about this--- one time i was at the mall with DS. We ran into a little girl from his preschool, who was there with her dad. They were eating in the food court at the table next to us. Then, the dad comes over and says "I'm sorry--- she needs to go to the bathroom. Would you mind taking her?" I didn't think anything of it-- bc like i said, i could see why he wouldn't want a 5 year old girl seeing stuff in the men's room....

Oh, aren't most Friendly's bathroom's private, single bathrooms? Then I think it's fine.

DH did this somewhere I cant remember where but he let my 5 DD go to the bathroom alone. I was not thrilled and told him next time you take her in with you to the mens room or try to find a family room.
though for friendlys while I wouldn't be thrilled I wouldn't be as upset if it was in the mall bathroom!

I'm obviously in the minority, but I would prefer if she went into the woman's room alone at 5/6.

I'm also running through places they may go together in my mind, and I'm not really sure what would happen if dh was standing right outside the door to the woman's room, even at a larger place.

DS is 5 and I take him into the women's bathroom with me all the time. I would not send him into the men's alone. Besides anything happening while he is in there, at that age they are too young to know not to touch every surface in there. I would be skeeved out to the fullest.

He would take her to one of the stalls in the mens room. We also carry a portable potty (DD is 4) in the car, so worse case he can take her there.

IMO 5 is too young to go to a public bathroom all by yourself.. I wouldn't want them touching anything in there.
