what's the worst parenting advice you've ever gotten?

Every piece of advice to be honest... having twins is NOTHING like having 1. So the whole sleep when the baby sleeps... yeah right when one is sleeping you are feeding and changing the next. Or never are a sleeping baby... if they aren't on the same schedule you will literally be feeding and changing around the clock.
If you can't tell I'm exhausted and haven't slept since they were born!!!

My brother is nine years younger than I am. My dd was in the middle of reading a book when another family member was leaving. She wanted to finish her page and did not acknowledge the person who wanted to leave. I went over to her, explained how she had to put down her brand new Hanukkah present and say goodby to her great grandma. She got up and gave her great grandma a hug and a kiss. Instead of thanking her for doing what she was supposed to do. He began to yell at her for her delay. It was the only time I have gotten into his face to say I will parent my kid and then explain how his instinct to yell after a child did what you wanted instead of praising and thanking them for doing what you wanted was the wrong instinct to have. Because yelling at a kid if they do what you want is a sure fire recipe for the kid to not want to do what you want them to do the next time.

I don't think I've gotten any really horrible advice, just old school. Like I've been told many times that I was spoiling my baby by feeding her on demand (she's EBF) or picking her up at night when she cries.

Now she's older and while she's still fed on demand, there's more of a schedule, especially since she's eating a lot of solids now, too. And since she's older, we've done CIO so she's learned to self soothe and sleep through the night. But I don't know how we managed since I spoiled her so much when she was a newborn.

personally i think 99% of advice is bad. Every baby is so different that advice that can help with one if useless with another.

Keep your son up later so he sleeps later into the morning....no. It's the exact opposite for him.

start giving them solids early so they sleep better at night......not true for us

Hahaha all the time! Even my gyno told me "it's the best gift you can give your child". Yeah, because he'll make some more money if I have another lol.

Hahahaha people seriously never stop!! I just had my twin boys 3 weeks ago, once people knew they were boys they were like oh you are going to have a 3rd and go for the girl? Um what makes you think the next one will be a girl? Are you giving me more money? Time? A bigger house? People are so ballsy

Ironically, my pediatrician told me to wake my first up every 3-4 hours at night to feed her. Then with my second, he told me never to wake up a sleeping child at night to feed!

Like others, don't hold the baby too much, you'll spoil it, etc. I'll add as I think of more bc there's been a lot!

My oldest was premature. I had a very hard time with it. My mom helped by telling me to call my ob/gyn to talk to someone. My mil "helped" by offering me her ambien saying I just needed rest. She had no clue

And it's been 9 years and she still has no clue. But I ignore her now

During pregnancy that. HG was all in my head and everyone gets morning sickness.

That I have to get rid of my cats because they will suck the breath or smother the baby. Heard this from about 10 people.

That my dog will eat my baby so I need to get rid of him too.

I should stop holding my 2 week old so much or it will spoil them.

To keep my newborn awake during the day so she sleeps at night. Nope sleep begets sleep and my dd has slept through the night since she was 12 weeks old.

Pretty much anything my mother has suggested was ridiculous! She thinks we're still in 1960 & if Dr. Spock said it it must be so! lol. But really she does have crazy ideas!
