What's the going rate for the tooth fairy these days?
We have our first loose tooth!
So how much for each tooth? Did you give more for the first toth?

Well don't go by me for sure. We gave Damien 20 for his first because that was all we had
I would have given him 10 though.

Re: What's the going rate for the tooth fairy these days?
We gave them 10 for their first tooth. Robbie got 2 bucks for all other teeth and $5 each for his front teeth. Noah has only lost one tooth, but we'll probably follow the same plan for him.

Re: What's the going rate for the tooth fairy these days?
$10 for the first tooth. $1 for each tooth after. Except the time the tooth fairy forgot to come the first night, then she left $2 the next night.
If you decide to give more with tooth #1, make sure you let her know that you have heard the first one gets more money than they rest otherwise you do not want to be the one breaking the bad news when tooth #2 doesn't yield the same profit.
Congrats to Amanda. My DD hasn't lost any yet and is getting antsy.

$5.00 for the first tooth and second tooth since it's all we had too, LOL, but will be giving only $1.00 for other teeth!

First tooth $5 after that $1/tooth
just curious (sorry to hijack)-did anyone else's kid think they were getting more for the front teeth because they're bigger?

Nothing....
We made a big deal about DS losing his teeth, and he understands the concept of the Tooth Fairy, but he didn't get any money for his teeth.

Mine did. Robbie had a pretty compelling argument! He told us that he was sure the tooth fairy would leave him extra for his front teeth because he kept them clean and that front teeth are the most important part of a smile and since he was giving them up to a baby and would have a weird smile for a while he thought the fairy would give more. She did!

Re: What's the going rate for the tooth fairy these days?
A gold coin (Sacagawea dollar). One of the kids at DD's school lost a tooth and kept talking about getting a gold coin, so that's what DD kept insisting she'd get.
DS is constantly checking for a loose tooth so he'll get his gold coin too.
ETA: My last boss had 2 girls and said the gold coin was common in their school too.

Re: What's the going rate for the tooth fairy these days?
same as most others who answered - $5 for the first tooth and $1 for others. The only time I gave $2 was if the tooth fairy "was too busy" the first night, or when DD had to have it pulled (we were trying to make room for other teeth to come in) She got $2 then too.

Not specifically in exchange for his teeth. Just not something we participate in. We didn't want the focus to be on getting money, but rather on the fact that he is growing up and getting his "grown up" teeth.

Re: What's the going rate for the tooth fairy these days?
OMG, this was a big issue in our house. DS lost his first tooth a month or so ago. He was telling us that kids in his class were getting $20!
He ended up getting $5 for his first tooth... and he wasn't overly thrilled Like Cathy, we gave DS a silver dollar and a gold coin dollar.

I got a JFK $.50 coin when I was a kid! I planned on doing the $1 coin for our kids.

DD gets a gold dollar coin. The tooth fairy also brings her little sister a gold Chuck E Cheese coin as a little something for her.

You have to tell him you are zoned differently on the tooth fairy's route. Someone in L's class got a hundred dollar bill for the first. that's insane whether you are wealthy or not. But I see I...I mean the tooth fairy we are zoned for is the big spender on this board. I guess I can't give DD a five when she loses her first. I'm sure she took copious mental notes so as to not be gypped.

Re: What's the going rate for the tooth fairy these days?
OMG...20 DOLLARS....that's insane to me... (says the 32 year old who use to yank her teeth out for a quarter stuffed in a pack of Trident!)
I was thinking that she gets to pick a (small) toy from Toys-r-us....no monetary reimbursement. I know I will have the kid in the back of her classroom twisting out her teeth thinking it's JACKPOT time.
