what would you say the average prices are at yard sales?
Like books (children's and adult)
clothes (new and used)
shoes (mostly flip flops)
picture frames
chatchkas?
stuff like that???

clothes: $.50-$1 you could go higher on coats, or new items
Books: $1
Shoes: $1-$3 if used
Picture frames: depends $3, $5

Books (children's and adult) - $.50 for paperbacks and maybe $.75 for hardcover
clothes (new and used) - $2-$3 new, $.50-$1 used
shoes (mostly flip flops) $1.00
picture frames $2
chatchkas? $1-$2
I am both a garage sale seller and a shopper. Make sure to mark the items you know you want a certain amount for. Always bargain with the buyer. They want it and you DON'T  The more you sell, the less you have to move back into the house at the end of the day

as a shopper of yard sales: there are two types of sellers... those trying to MAKE MONEY and those trying to GET RID OF STUFF. the former will have higher prices than the latter.

On buyers: You will have some buyers who will want you to give away everything for "free" and give you them cash too.
I have done quite a few yardsales. Sometimes I refuse to sell just because I don't like the attitude of some buyers.

i had a moving/yard sale once, and a lady stole from me while i was calculating another's total!

Just be visible and walk around. Pay attention to what they pickup and what they pay for.
I have had the occasion where I am packing up and thinking "hey, I never sold that item, where did it go"?  
Too many people hide in the garage or at the "top" of a garage sale. Walk around a lot and follow people if you feel they are shady

So glad you posted this....i think we are having a garage sale next weekend and we def want to get rid of everything! Last time we had one, a woman stuffed something in her pocket right in front of me and denied it...i couldn't frisk her and i wasn't going to call the cops over a $10 necklace that i wore to prom ten years ago. People suck!
