What would you do regarding this dr. situation?
I have been going to this same practice for about 8 yrs now. Once I got preggo I starting to see the OB there because I had previous been dealing with only the Gyno. Over the last 8 months I feel like we formed a great patient /dr relationship. He makes me feel comfortable and at ease and I love his sense of humor (which I think relaxes me). Lets call him Dr. 1
I have had 2-3 appointments with the other OB who I like and think is a wonderful dr. but we do not have the same relationship. His personality is very “doctor” but still a nice guy. Lets call him Dr. 2.
Well Dr. 1 and Dr. 2 had a “business disagreement” last week and are no longer working together. Dr. 2 has been with the practice for numerous yrs. Where Dr. 1 has only been with them for approx. 2 yrs. So Dr. 2 stayed and Dr. 1 is gone.
I found out where Dr. 1 is and I have the option to go to him. Now I am 35 weeks preggo and just so confused. Do I leave the practice to continue with the Dr. I “really like” or do I stay with the practice and continue with the Dr. I “like”. Dr. 1 isnt far from the office I currently go to and is still affiliated with the same hospital as well.
Dr. 2 is well established and all my files are there in that office currently. Dr. 1 is temporarily sharing office space with another dr. now to get things rolling as fast as possible so this doesn’t affect any of his current patients.
I just don’t know what to do. Any comments /suggestions/questions that might help me make this decision?

I would go to the doctor I really liked, Id much rather have someone I am super comfortable with and happy with in the delivery room with me. You can have all your records sent to his office in 1 day, plus you have been seeing him, so its not like a new doctor

I absolutely agree. You want to feel comfortable with the dr who will be in the delivery room and I think changing over now would probably make you happier than staying with the more established dr.

I suppose if the odds are strong that Dr #1 - should you follow him - will be the one delivering your baby, I would go to him. Otherwise, if the office has a few Drs or if the hospital has a pool of Drs that could deliver your baby, I might just stay where I was (w/ Dr #2).

As long as #1 is totally up and running, I would go with him.
Is insurance going to be an issue?

Re: What would you do regarding this dr. situation?
They'll transfer your files, so no worries there. Its just like if you moved and got a new dr, they transfer the files.
Other than that concern, I can't see why you wouldn't go with Dr 1. I see no downside. You should be comfortable. And its the same hospital.

I would change practices and go with Dr. 1. I think its important to feel comfortable with and even like the dr. that will be delivering your child.

I would leave and go to Doctor #1. The office doesn't matter, its the doctor that is important, and if you have the option to still see him, then do it!!

Re: What would you do regarding this dr. situation?
I would go with the dr you are more comfortable with - but one thing to consider is who is on call if Dr. 1 is unavailable and are you okay with who that is?

Re: What would you do regarding this dr. situation?
If Dr. 1 makes you feel more comfortable, i say go with him.. You gotta do whats best for you and your child.... Im sure there are plenty of patients for both of them, so dont worry about hurting their feelings, they know how it is.. plus your prego.. thats more important.

Re: What would you do regarding this dr. situation?
No question . . . follow Dr. 1 to his new place. If you were 5 weeks PG it might be different, but at 35w no way would I find a new MD.

Re: What would you do regarding this dr. situation?
Thanks everyone. I am just so nervous for some reason and I dont want to hurt Dr. 2 feelings. It must be my preggo hormones. And I am actually scared to call the office and ask for my file. Silly I know.

Re: What would you do regarding this dr. situation?
Debbie, do you think #2 is more experienced? If so, and if it were me, I'd stay w/him to finish out the pregnancy over #1 who I was more comfortable with.

If I felt comfortable with Dr. #1...I'd go with him! It's the Dr-not the office that matters!

Go to doctor #1. You should see who you are most comfortable with, especially now that you are nearing the end.

ITA. It's not like you haven't been seeing him and now at the end it's important to be totally comfortable with your doctor.

I agree on both counts. Just make sure about the insurance. The costs will knock you over if he is not set up to cover everything.

I would go with Dr#1.
My doctor didn't deliver my dd - it was the doctor on call. In the end, it didn't make a difference at all.
