What would you do?
So we are having a girl's baby shower thingie at lunch today here at work, with the whole office there...and this guy is going to announce that he's engaged...should I say I'm 3 months pregnant and get it overwith or do you think its too early? I'm 12w3d today. Would you?

hmmm tough one. Part of me says go for it cause it will feel so great to let it out, but the other part of me thinks you shouldn't cause some people might take that as stealing her thunder. Does that make sense?

I wouldn't...It's someone else shower and already, someone is "stealing" her thunder by announcing he's engaged. Wait for a day that is all for you!

I wouldn't do it, it's her baby shower. I personally don't like when one person uses anothers persons event to make any big announcements though. I always want to give people thier time to shine.

I agree and was going to say the same thing. I think it's pretty weird for the guy to tell everyone he is engaged at someone else's celebration. IMHO, I think you should wait...at least until tomorrow or something. It's not a matter of how far along you are, I just think it is her celebration, and you don't want to take that away from her.

I hear ya. This is her 2nd baby and she totally isn't like that. We are a small close office here, so I think it would be kinda cute to just get it out especially after the one guy announces his engagement. PLUS, I dread having to go into the 3 partners alone to say it, lol. This is a good opportunity. The only thing holding me back is, is 12 1/2 weeks too early to tell? I have my handy doppler so I hear the baby beating away in there...ugh what is a girl to do??? She already knows, a few people here know.
ETA: I see the respones, I guess today is not a good day to let it out.

Re: What would you do?
I guess it depends on the actualy guiest of honor and how well you know her as well as her personality. The shower is for her, so it should be her day - will she be "ok" or slightly hurt that everyone else is making announcements? I might wait until tomorrow or another day (hard as it may be!) just to give her a "special" day!! But you know best - what do you think you should do?

I agree 100% with this - I think that I'm finding it most weird that this guy is announcing his ENGAGEMENT at the girls shower?
I think that telling people you are PG at 12+ weeks is perfect - that isn't the issue at all - I just would not do so at this particular event...
Good luck whatever you decide!

Re: What would you do?
You know your office better than we do, so if you think she won't care it might be the perfect time to make the announcement since everyone is celebrating. You're definately far enough along if that was your concern.
ETA: If she already knows, why don't you ask her how she would feel about you making the announcement today. You can decide what do based on how she reacts.

Thanks. She already knows and like I said we are a very small close office and have lunch together every day. It's a surprise lunch for her and we got her a gift. We had a baby shower for her 2 years ago with her first. My coworkers that know said it would be a perfect time but it seems like everyone else says its rude. I guess I'll just wait. I am just shy and would have loved to just get it out while everyone was there, but it's no biggie!

Re: What would you do?
I would still wait even though this is her 2nd and you said shes not like that. Its still her special day to celebrate with the office. Wait and pick a day thats all you!
Its not too early time wise though. I told my office before 12 weeks.
