What would u do?

Last month i had the craziest cycle of my life.
I made an app't with an RE to get some answers, since my regular obgyn did not want me to do any testing at her office, and i was going crazy not knowing when my AF would show. Of course, after i made the app't AF showed and was very normal..it lasted my regular 5/6 days (unlike last month which was only 3 days).

App't is this coming Thursday. However this is the deal.

- i'm almost 39 trying for number two
- even though i've been on this site forever, i've actually only tried for three months.
- i got pregnant on the first of those three months but had a misssed miscarriage.
- not ready to start any type of fertility treatments just yet.

So should i go to the app't or cancel it? I wouldn't mind getting checked out, but i feel like the whole point of going to an RE is for fertility treatments, and i'm not ready to start anything just yet
I just don't want the doctor to be like."why are you wasting my time"

What do u think?

Re: What would u do?

I asked a similar question of the ladies here last month and they said go and I did just that...so glad I did because like you I am trying for #2 had a m/c in March and am 36 with very irregular cycles. They have been able doing regular sonos and blood for the last three weeks and I should be Oing today or tomorrow. They say if you are over the age of 35, have irregular cycles, and have had a m/c you should just have yourself checked out...believe me it has given me peace of mind. Good Luck!

Re: What would u do?

I would just go. You won't regret going, but you might regret cancelling the appointment in a few months.

The doctor is NOT going to think you are wasting his time. Chat Icon

Re: What would u do?

I was the same way. I didnt want to see an RE until I was ready to make the step. Depending on how long in between you testing now and when you would want to start treatments (if you ever have to) you may have to have certain tests redone.

If you really aren't ready to move on I would cancel the appt.

You might not want or need fertility treatments at this point in time, but you may want to know if you have any issues that might cause more miscarriages (Chat Icon that you dont!). Then when you DO get pregnant again, the RE can help make sure everything goes smoothly!

if you are 39 you should DEF go. also, no one wants to do fertility treatments, believe me, but you will want to know if there's a high probability that you will need them or need support after a BFP.

Re: What would u do?

to be honest the one thing i would LOVE is to go get sono's every week after a bfp. Not sure if they'd do that for me if i got preggo without their treatment, but that would make me very happy.
After going through a missed miscarriage...i never want to walk around for almost nine weeks thinking i have a growing bean in my belly just to find out again the there was nothing there. I know my regular obgyn won't see me before eight weeks.
Looks like i will just keep my app't - thanks everyone!

I would keep the appt for all the reasons listed above. You can have the test done to rule out any problems and ask if timed intercourse can be a plan of action for you. Perhaps that may make you more comfortable?

I am doing timed intercourse...had bloodwork and sonos done every few days to find out exactly when I would ovulate and had my LH surge yesterday so I had to BD last night and for the next 2 days...they will then test my progesterone on Monday....this has been a natural cycle but if to PG then I will try clomid next one....keeping my fingers crossed for sucess this month.

hmm, very interesting. I guess it's more of a guaranty than an OPK.

I went last month, not quite sure how much intervention I was ready for yet. But I wanted to at least know I was ovulating or if there was something else wrong and I was wasting my time. Fortunately, I found out I was pregnant a few days after my consultation. They did decide to monitor me for the first month even though I got pregnant on my own. It's been great! I had blood tests right away and a sono at 5 1/2 weeks. I have another one scheduled for Thursday at 6 1/2 weeks. After that I'll probably transition to my regular OB who will see me at 8 weeks. I can't imagine having to wait so long without confirmation so it really did work out perfectly for me. Lots of luck to you!
