What will LO call your parents and ILs?

My nephew calls (well, he's 7 months, so we all call) my mom Babba (derivative of Bubie, Yiddish for grandmother) and my dad Papa or Pops.

This will be the first grandchild for IL. My MIL is Argentinean so I think she is thinking maybe Abu (for Abuela - right?) and my FIL will probably be Zayda. But I guess we'll see!

How did your kids/will your LO come up with grandparent names? Did the grandparents choose their own?

Our parents had all kinds of ideas before the kids were born. In the end, my kids called the grandparents what they themselves wanted.

So for both grandmas, it started out as maa maa, but once they started to really talk, my mother was named Big mama, and my MIL was named Little mama. Because the kids realized one was tall, one was short.

For grandfathers, they started out as papa, and now my dad is Little papa, and my grandfather is Big papa because my dad is obviously younger than my grandfather.

So, you can start them saying what you want them to say, but don't be surprised if they come up with something on their own.

My mom: Big grandma (When you ask DD why, my dad taught her to answer "because she has a big butt" )

MIL: Little grandma (the real reason for big/little grandma is my mom's house is bigger...i can't even believe DD would notice that..we never pointed it out)

My dad: Papa (LastName)

FIL: Papa (LastName)

My mom wanted Nonna and she got Nonine instead (that's how the girls pronounced it)
My MIL wanted Nana and she got it.

And their great grandmothers are Mee-ma cause they couldn't pronounce grandma. The names just stuck with them

OMG my mom and MIL would DIE if either one of them became big grandma....I love it!

We don't really use grandma/grandpa in our families at all though, so I doubt it will go that way. Other than Papa all our grandparent titles are ethnic/religious.

my mom will be muumi (grandma in Finnish....pronounced like it's spelled- moo-me)

MIL: meemar (that's what all her grandkids call her now)

FIL: papa

I am closer to my maternal grandmother because she technically raised me. I called her mami-yoya (all her grandchildren call her that)
I call my paternal grandma abuela

I want my kids to called my mom abuela and my dad abuelo

I am still thinking of a name to call my grandma lol

His parents prefer grandpa and grandma

DS calls my parents Grandma / Granpda and DH's parents Nana / Pop.
The grandparents basically made it that way and DS fell in line. He was calling my mom "Layla" for awhile. No clue where that came from. Not even close to her name.

Grandma and Grandpa (my niece and nephew called them that)

my parents - grandma and grandpa. Although my nephew calls the my mom "ma," and my dad "baba." So DS (11 months) may follow him.

My DS came up with a name for my mom and dad all on his own. I would call them Abuelita and Abuelito which became Uelita and Uelito (I took out the AB) then when DS was learning to talk he made their names Uita (wee-ta) and Uipu (wee-poo) which is dervied from the Uelita and Uelito.Very original and they love it!

DH's mom is just grandma.

What will LO call your parents and ILs?

This is my ILs second grandchild but they seem to be going by Grandma and Grandpa. Our niece is only 7 months so it's not like she's speaking yet but that's what they seem to call themselves.

My parents will be Bubbie (my mom's Jewish) and Grandpa (my dad's Catholic). We called my dad's father "Grandpa" and he called his Grandfather "Grandpa". I think he really just wants to be a "Grandpa".

I know it's two Grandpa's but I had two Grandpa's and it's totally ok. I didn't think it was right to tell my dad he couldn't be called Grandpa because my ILs had a grandchild already. My FIL tried to get my dad to be called something else but I shut that idea down real quick.

My family and I speak russian fluently so I hope my child will too so probably babulya for gma and deda for gpa in russian. and my hubbys parents grandma and grandpa I guess he is not russian lol

My dad wanted g-pop DD at first could not say and she would call him baji lol i have no idea how she got that out of g-pop she say both fine now and this DC will be using the same names

DH doesnt speak to MIL so no name for her

FIL lives in Florida we rarely see him i think he we will just be called grandpa

My son calls my parents nonna and papa and my in laws Grandma and grandpa (some times pop pop).

I like them pick! My son picked pop pop lol

My children are going to be very lucky because they'll have a lot of grandparents! On my side they'll have: my mom, dad, maternal and fraternal grandma & grandpa, step-mom & step-dad. On DH's side: his mom, dad and maternal grandmother.

My maternal grandmother will be Nana and my mom mentioned being Mema just to cut down on confusion lol. MIL said she doesn't like 'grandma' but hasn't come up with anything else yet.

On my dad's side, we always called my great-grandmother 'GG' not sure if my grandmother is going to want to take on that title.

My MIL will be called either Gan Gan or Granny
This is my Moms 2nd Grandchild and my MIL's 5th

ds is only 2.5- intention to call grandma & grandpa but right now

grandma's are both- EMA
grandpa is- Ampa
