What was your LO's first solid? edited with another q
I'm thinking of skipping rice and doing sweet potatoes
TIA eta and how old were they
Edited- If I'm giving them a fruit or a veggie at 6 months, do I need to puree it, or can I give it to them whole? Sorry, I don't know much about this.

I puree all of tiny tots food. I'm to much of a P to have it whole.lol
I did give her puffs for the first time the other day. It's funny watching her feed herself.lol

Re: What was your LO's first solid? edited with another q
at 5 months, dd had avocado, followed by pureed sweet potato. we moved on to the other veggies after that (peas, carrots, butternut squash, zucchini, etc.)
we skipped rice cereals and oatmeals completely
at 9 months now we still puree most of her veggies, though I leave them more clumpier and chunkier now so there's a bit more texture. With her fruits, I cut them into bite sized pieces and feed them to dd

Re: What was your LO's first solid? edited with another q
I skipped cereal and gave them sweet potatoes (5.5 mo). They loved them. We will try carrots next (something new every 3 days). I did it b/c of allergies, cereal has really nothing in it but iron and they are on iron vitamins and b/c it looks and probably tastes like paste. lol
If you make them yourself they need to be really liquidy. Buy a small jar of organic so you can see the cosistancy first. I just feed them organic for now and don't make my own.

Re: What was your LO's first solid? edited with another q
DD's first was oatmeal, followed by foods that didn't need to be cooked and I could just mash them up (bananas/avocados).
Sweet potatoes are a great early food. There are no rules - you can do whatever you want.
ETA - Yes, we always pureed/mashed her fruits and veggies at that age. My purees were much thicker than store bought ones and she was fine with them - but they were always pureed.

Rice cereal for about a day at exactly 4 months. Then oatmeal for 3 days then went on to fruits and veggies. 3 days then moved onto a new one. Have no idea what I started with.
Yes I would puree at this point. Until they are used to havign food....then you can go with mashed and then small bites. They do not need teeth to eat....gums will mash food.
