What type (shape) of pasta..

Do you love/hate?

What shape for what sauce?
What can't you use for XYZ? What has to be used for XYZ?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My mom made something with Kasha when I was a kid w/ bow tie pasta - i HATE that shape.
I can use anything else - prefer Angel hair over thicker spag's.
Mostly penne b/c its easy for DS although I still get excited for Wagon Wheels.
If I make meatballs w/ brown gravy it HAS to be wagon wheels...
Re: What type (shape) of pasta..
I LOVE rigatoni and LOVE fettucini
HATE spagetti, angel hair...haaaaaaaate.
Bowties are okay with like a cheesey-based sauce.
I'm "okay" with penne and ziti.
Fusilli scares me, unless it's in a cold pasta dish.
Elbow noodles are only okay for me in a tuna salad.
Tortellini has to be in a cold pasta dish.
I have pasta quirks, to say the least.
Re: What type (shape) of pasta..
I dislike the plain ziti, the one without ridges, like ziti or mostaccioli.
I have a love/hate relationship with rotini.
My new fave is cellantani. Holds the sauce really well and doesn't fall apart.
Re: What type (shape) of pasta..
I love rigatoni and I don't know why. I also prefer ziti with lines over plain ziti.
I'm also not a fan of bow ties b/c I feel like they always fall apart and if you cook them al dente then they're really hard in the middle.
Re: What type (shape) of pasta..
Pesto has to be with bowties, Rotini, Gemelli or Cavatappi. It needs a pasta that can catch the sauce IMO.
I don't like linguini, but I can handle angel hair and I LOVE spaghetti and thick spaghetti.
I make Alfredo with almost any pasta on hand, but I like it with the curly pastas mainly b/c those are my favorite types.
I don't love rigantoni, but Mom makes it a lot when she makes sauce and meatballs. When I make sauce, I like spaghetti Chat Icon
Re: What type (shape) of pasta..
I am not really a fan of long pastas, because the sauce splatters when you eat, and I make a mess of myself, LOL. I love angel hair though.
LOVE:
Rigatoni
Penne
Cappellini (angel hair)
Cavatelli
Fusili
Fettuccini
Not a huge fan of:
Spaghetti
Bowties
Ziti
Paparadelle
ETA: we only use spaghetti or angel hair with marinara sauce or garlic and oil. If I make "gravy" (i.e. thicker sauce with meat) or a cream sauce I use any other type.
Re: What type (shape) of pasta..
We typically buy penne or fusili (the spiral). My favorite kind of pasta is spaghetti though...the thicker the better!
I also LOVE tortellini, but I guess that's kind of different...
Bow Ties are good for something different
Everthing else is fine
I am not a fan of Ziti or fettuccine... Angel hair kind of skeeves me too! I also hate when spaghetti is too thick Chat Icon
Riagtoni is probably my favorite.
Re: What type (shape) of pasta..
My favorites are gnocchi w/meat sauce or pesto.
Pappardelle with meat sauce, creamy (like a vodka)
Penne with tomato, sausage, meatballs
linguini with white or red clam sauce
spagetti with meatballs, sausage,tomato
I like fusilli cold in a pasta salad only
Tortellini I like cold in pasta salad or w/oil and garlic.
Pastina I like in soup...
Elbows &shells- mac and cheese
angel hair can be nice with garlic oil, fresh mussels or clams and lots of parsley
I could go onChat Icon
Re: What type (shape) of pasta..
I hate elbows for anything but macaroni salad. I don't know why.
DH and I use Cavatappi, Penne, and Shells for a lot of recipes (lentils, pasta fagioli, lemon chicken pasta, mac and cheese, etc.). Fusilli is one of my favorites with tomato sauce.
