What to eat vs. what not to eat

I've heard so many things about food that are good to eat while TTC as well as foods that can be harmful. I was thinking that maybe you ladies could help me out with food that could help b/c I can't remember or keep it all straight.

Re: What to eat vs. what not to eat

I have been avoiding foods high in mercury. Specifically, fish like tuna and tilapia have a lot!

Re: What to eat vs. what not to eat

The only things I've cut out are fast food and diet soda (well all soda really cause I won't drink regular). I've tried to cut back on the frozen meals like the Lean Cuisines and such only because of the high sodium.

And I've started drinking a lot of water and seltzer to stay hydrated.

Re: What to eat vs. what not to eat

I started drinking more water, I take my pre-natals every day(without DHA bc my dr. said to start those once preggers) and that's pretty much it. Once I get my BFP I'll be careful with my diet, I'm pretty good to begin with, I eat lots of veggies, etc. so I think I'm good to go.

I haven't really tried to eat or not eat any specific foods. I hate fish so mercury wasn't an issue for me! I have just been trying to eat healthy.

Re: What to eat vs. what not to eat

i've cut out regular coffee, and limit my caffeine to one soda, decaf coffee or tea per day, if that. i find i only drink about 3 caffeinated beverages (non-coffee) a week now. i also am working on minimizing my sugar intake. not sure why, or if it would even help with TTC but i eat too much sugar (candy, cookies) and figured it's healthier to cut back regardless.

are artificial sweeteners detrimental to TTC? I put it in my tea or drink diet soda or diet lemonade, which has it.

never knew about the mercury, good idea!

what about alcohol? I don't drink much but will have one glass of wine a week, if that. I had a glass of wine tonight, even tho this morning's OPK indicated a surge. i thought since i've heard pregnant women can have a glass every so often that it wouldn't hurt, but maybe i'm wrong? yikes, as i write this i think maybe that was stupid of me. I wouldn't worry about a glass of wine here and there while TTC. I'm actually having one now and I'm in the TWW, although I won't drink at all once I get a BFP.

I drink wine all the time. My dr told me to continue my life as normal. The more stress you put on yourself about what to eat what not to eat, did i do this, did i do that the more harm you are doing. A glass of wine wont hurt you as much as the stress of worrying about it all will

Honestly, I didn't really change anything about the way I ate when I was TTC. Other than taking a pre-natal I didn't do anything different. Personally, I wouldn't stress too much over what you're eating while TTC unless you have a steady diet of junk food and McDonalds. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have cut back to one cup of caffeine a day. Also, I no longer use any artificial sweeteners and only use real sugar. I am trying to rarely eat any frozen meals, since they are high in sodium.

Re: What to eat vs. what not to eat

I didn't cut back on anything. I figure you don't know how long it will take and I don't want to look back and regret. I drink wine all the time...drink diet soda and coffee. Being pregnant is a different story...but while TTC I do whatever. You've gotta figure that women have been getting pregnant for YEARS...I mean back in teh day women smoked and drank...not to mention all the drug addicts that can still get pregnant! lol I think a little wine and diet soda is A OK ! Re: What to eat vs. what not to eat

The only thing I have cut back on is splender. Actually I cut it completely. Not even because of TTC but because its bad for you!

I know dr.'s and they all say that you dont have to worry about it until week 8 of your preg. but if I get a BFP I would cut things out.
