Absolutely agree 100%!!! The girl I babysit asked me this morn why the leprechaun didn't come visit her.... LOL what do you say to that... I never had any leprechauns visiting me when I was a kid... It's sad that as a mom, you feel like you have to do what the other parents are doing so you don't disappoint your kid :-/

This is so incredibly true. It has gotten out of hand. I love a lot of holidays but enough is enough.

I so agree with this article. My cd is only 1.5 but when I first heard if the elf on the shelf I just didn't get it. And I still barely do. Maybe that will change when she's older but it seems really annoying to me now. I saw my NINE year old neice freak bc someone touched the thing.

Re: What the holidays have become...
I admit I'm guilty of going a little over board sometimes but this article is very true. Sometimes it is too much! When I was kid people didn't go crazy over vday and st Patricks day. I think a lot has to do with social media and people get ideas from everyone else and people want to post their cute picture. My fb feed was jammed today with pictures of people's kids all dressed in green, St Patricks crafts and st Patricks day themed food! Im all about fun and celebrations but sometimes it's over board and I think people feel stressed to keep up with each other.

What the holidays have become...
Depends. I think it's great to do holiday activities in school, especially with the younger kids. It helps them remember what the holidays are about etc. At home I do basically nothing. I have a box of assorted holiday signs that I rotate on my front door. That's about it. I did make pink heart waffles for vday and I did get them a small gift. Easter I just do egg painting one day and tbh I don't do a basket for them. I do for my nieces and nephews and we exchange. I posted about all the goody bags at school just recently. I try and send in one decent thing for each kid when I have to send stuff in but in the back of my mind I think it's a kind of stupid expense.

Yeah I read that earlier, it's so true. It's gotten out of hand honestly. Every month is an over the top holiday celebration. We do Xmas, Easter and a little token for vday. Honestly all these lil holidays, just amount to more crap in my house that we wind up tossing 2 weeks later anyway.

My DD asked that too. I have NEVER heard of a leprechaun coming, like the Easter Bunny, this annoying Elf on a Shelf, etc.
I felt bad but I told her the leprechaun never came to my or DHs house either. What an annoying thing to have to feel you have to do now.

What the holidays have become...
Eta: I agree with the article
Lmfao.. I blame my DS's school. They had an elf on a shelf and teaching about leprechauns. He kept asking and saying he hopes the Elf comes during Christmas. I told him not in our house, because the elf was too busy at his school.
Today when DS came home he ran out his room saying the Leprechaun messed his room up. My DH told him it wasn't a leprechaun it was mommy who changed his sheets.
I was like dude we are Puerto Rican. I just assumed it was a St. Patrick Day thing like Santa bringing gifts. Never heard of it before today.

Re: What the holidays have become...
I totally agree and I was thinking the same exact thing!! I never, ever heard of it and I thought the "leprechaun visiting" was a cultural thing that I was deprived of, coming from a Latino background. I'm glad to hear I am not the only one. DD, who is in kindergarten was actually very frightened when she came back from lunch and saw her classroom was a mess and books scattered everywhere. Apparently her class got a "visit" from the leprechaun. Although it is an adorable concept, she is a BIG chicken! She is afraid of her own shadow. She kept waking up crying, afraid that the leprechaun would come to her room. I wound up telling her that the leprechaun doesn't exist. I also don't do the Easter Bunny visiting our house. There are just too many things for them to believe in. In our home, it's Santa and the Tooth Fairy (when the time comes)!

Re: What the holidays have become...
My motto when it comes to all this:
And as far as yesterday, we aren't even remotely Irish and we don't celebrate St Patrick's Day. That's the same thing to me as Hanukkah. We aren't Jewish, so why would I celebrate Hanukkah in my home? Sorry, I can barely keep up with the basics like Christmas and Easter. It stresses me out and that's not good for anybody

Re: What the holidays have become...
We celebrate as many holidays as we can and we did the leprechaun thing yesterday to. My thinking is life is short and any chance to add FUN to it works for me. I love seeing the kids excited for things and making the day special. Maybe it is because DH and I both work FT, but I will take whatever opportunities I can to add fun and family interaction in our house, its what makes great memories! BTW my oldest DD is 9 and told me she knows the leprechaun isn't real but still wants us to do everything because she loves it.

Re: What the holidays have become...
I'm Irish and I never heard of the leprachaun visiting in my life. Some kid at school told my ds if he wore green pjs the leprachaun would come with gold coins. He wore green pjs but the leprechuan didn't come. He was a bit diappointed. I tried to explain the kid was just telling him stories.
