What side are you on?

DH and I are having a hard time deciding whether spending $190 on a tables and chair set for DD is worth it. Part of us feels like it will get ruined, we should just get a plastic cheap $40 set from toys r us but part of us feels like we want a nice set that blends into our house more, quality for her to have for the next 6 years (its a small set, so she'll probably grow out of it by then). ACK! so torn.

What side are you on?

I doubt you will really have it for 6 years. If you could actually keep it in great condition then yeah I'd spend the money but my DS has had his table for less than a year and I am ready to toss it already.

I think god everyday I didn't spend a lot on it.

We received a plastic step 2 table and two plastic chairs for DD to play with. We have probably had the set for about 1.5 years and while she is fine using it I don't like it. The chairs are really slippery and the table is kind of flimsy. I"m actually looking into getting her a wooden set to put in her room. I think a sturdier table would be used more often.

I got DC a nice, sturdy wooden set which cost about that much. Had for a couple of yrs now.

I would spend the money on a quality set.

We had a mickey one dry erase table with folding chairs. The chairs are now ruined and ripped. It wasnt made very good. We are now going to buy a nice wooden one that will last a little longer.

I got a nice white set from target for cheap, like a pottery barn kids knockoff. I prob wouldn't spend that kind of $

I would spend $190 if I thought the design was nice and quality was good.

We are very happy with our 2 Ikea tables. We have the white rectangle one and the brown espresso color one. Both tables have marker and paint stains on them.

I think I paid about $150 for our set. Have had it for about a year now and it still looks brand new. Friends of mine bought a cheaper set and 3 of the fours chair are already in the trash, the fourth is on its way and the table is held together with spit and glue.
I personally believe in spending a little extra money and taking care of something and then you will not have to replace it.

What side are you on?

I would get a quality set over plastic, but wouldn't spend that much. We got DD a KidKraft set that cost less than $100. It's a great set.

My mom bought my DD a nice, sturdy wood set, and it looks nice in our dining room. I'd personally rather spend the money on quality. This set should last us if we have another DC as well.

I will pay more money for quality. I'm not going to cheap-out on chairs that look like they will collapse or a table that looks flimsy. Kids sit on tables, no matter how many times you tell them NOT to. Eventually they learn, but it happens.

If it was costly, I would avoid anything character related, like Disney stuff, because that they will outgrow sooner.

We have a plastic round Ikea table that I bought from someone on here. We bought additional matching chairs. Has held up well and is used often. It's become the play-doh table for now.

We also have a wooden table and chair set from Ikea. Not that expensive. My son drew all over that. But it's still standing, and if we really wanted to, we could paint over it.

you could probably get a 2nd hand set..kids outgrow EVERYTHING..dont think my kids used anything for 6yrs.

We have a nice resin/plastic set from Ikea ...all together under $100.00. We have even had adult sit in one of the chairs and it was fine. My son is rough on stuff so that tells you something! It may not be fancy wood color but we have kids living here We keep it in the play area / room but always seem to have toys in the living room so if we had to would have it in the dining room. I hear where you are coming from with blending in. If it is that important to you and the quality is there and the money is not an issue then go for it. the Ikea set is so sturdy (I see it in other places for general public kids to use). I have had ours for 2 years and no problems so far ...could probably last another 4.

What side are you on?

Im about to make my dd a playroom and Im going to get a wood set and not a cheap one. Theres a set from KidKraft that is really nice and I know a few friends who have it and love it. I believe its like $100-$140 look into that brand. They come in multiple wood finishes, and even in colors.

DS had a nice wodden set that we kept in his room. He loved it and it was well used. We were able to sell it in a yard sale for about $50.00.

I have a wooden table and chair set I got at a garage sale for $10. Works fine. She's painted on it (it came off), she's dropped glue on it, juice, all sorts of food and flour.

She's 5 and its starting to be more useful for homework or to sit while I cook (its in our kitchen). Its great when her friend comes over as it has two chairs and they can do stuff. I have also picked it up and put it out on my back porch on nice days to do crafts.

No way I'd spend $100 on something like that. But that's me.

We have a kidkraft set (wood) with 4 chairs. I think it was around $130. It looks nice and has held up well so far. I sit in the chairs occasionally and it hasn't fallen apart yet. My mom has a PBK set - white table and 2 chairs - and she is happy with it because it is in a very visible place in her house. I think its worth it if that's the only one you like. But you can probably find something a little cheaper too that is a similar look

I paid about that much for DS's PBK set. It has been thrown, jumped on, jumped off of, knocked over and still keeps going. We have had it for about 3.5 yrs. well worth it.
Eta: i bought the PBK one because it matched my furniture and wasnt kid primary colors.

The plastic ones are total junk and IMO not functional for their intended purpose. The chairs tip over SO easy they are not safe at all and the table - same story. We have a wooden set from KidKraft that I think cost around that much and we've had it for 3 yrs and it's still going strong. My kids can really use it and I don't have to worry the chair is going to go straight backwards when they lean the wrong way. Honestly, I really don't think that is that much money for a good table and chairs set.

Try Ikea. That's where we got ours; we've had it for about 4 years and it's like new. It cost less than half of what you're thinking of spending for a table and four chairs.
