What should the next step be?

I have been trying to be really patient with TTC, but after a year of trying and one miscarriage I feel defeated. I have irregular periods, but after tracking my cycles on FF I tend to O around CD 22 and my cycles are around 35-40 days. What should my next step be? Should I ask my obgyn to run some tests and if so what kind.? I don't think my insurance covers RE's. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: What should the next step be?

Im really sorry that you are going through this. I have no personal experience but I would assume the next step you should take is to speak with your OBGyn and see if they can run some test (Im not sure what test they would run though)Chat Icon

Re: What should the next step be?

Have you already discussed with your OB that you have been TTC so long?

I would def set up an appointment with him/her to start running some routine tests. A lot can be uncovered by your regular OB before you even need to see an RE. You can have a full bloodwork done up to make sure all of your levels are where they should be. You can also be sent for an HSG. An ultrasound can be done on your ovaries to make sure there are no cysts. You can also get a script for your DH to go for a Semen Analaysis.

I would start there. Hopefully you will get some quick answers Chat Icon

I agree with this! Hopefully your insurance will cover visiting an RE. Just meeting with one might put your mind at ease!

i agree too! i have a great obgyn who ran tests for me and didn't find much of anything. then we switched to an RE and he was able to pinpoint quite a few things going on. i think in general RE's look a little deeper. if your insurance doesn't cover an RE, then definitely ask your ob to start running preliminary tests. good luck Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree with all PP. Have a consultation with your gyno and see what they suggest. Try to stay positive.

This is spot on. I spoke to my gyn during my annual and told her that I was having irregular spotting, light periods and never got a positive OPK. She ran all my bloodwork and I have a sono actually in an hour. DH had his SA done yesterday. So hopefully next week we'll know where we stand and if we need to move onto an RE. Definitely make an appt to see your gyn! Just taking the first step will help you to feel better.

Call your insurance and see if you do have any infertility coverage. And definitely have your dr run some tests. Good luck!

ITA. If you have coverage for a RE, I'd say go to a Re and not waste your time with the OBGYN. A RE is more proactive and trained in problem cases.

My OBGYN was going to monitor me on meds, but I went to a RE instead because I felt that my OBGYN office had too much else to deal with and I might not get the care I needed.

Re: What should the next step be?

I'd go to an RE... OBGYN's IMHO aren't as thorough as an RE would be with testing. They also tend to brush things off more.
I'd prefer an RE handsdown.

I went to Dr Braverman.
