What month are we in?
The state is preparing for heavy rain, snow, high winds and flooding this weekend into early next week, Gov. Eliot Spitzer said Friday.
Such Nor'easters typically hit Long Island hardest.
"It is imperative that the public be aware of the potential problems associated with this storm and plan accordingly," Spitzer said.
The state's National Guard is being alerted and prepared for the storm and the possibility of impassible roads and power losses.
The National Weather Service warned that several inches of rain is possible along with winds gusting to 40 mph or harder starting Saturday night. In the Long Island area, the rain and some snow could meet the spring tide, which would mean a tidal surge of just 1 or 2 feet could result in coastal flooding.
"Even though it may be spring, we need to take this warning seriously and be sure to take appropriate precautions," Spitzer said.

Re: What month are we in?
Seriously! I don't live in Bayville, but I have a phone number with a Bayville exchange.
I got an automated call earler today with a warning about the impending nor'easter and flooding (Bayville was underwater when the 1993 Nor'easter hit).
It just sucks. I just hope all this cold, rainy weather now means a nice summer!

Re: What month are we in?
holy schnykies!!!!!!!!!!!
A SIGNIFICANT...POSSIBLY MAJOR...NOR'EASTER WILL AFFECT THE REGION ON SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT. THIS STORM WILL BRING STRONG NORTHEAST WINDS TO THE AREA ON SUNDAY...CAUSING WATER TO PILE UP IN NEW YORK HARBOR AND ALONG THE SOUTH SHORE OF LONG ISLAND. THE STORM WILL ALSO COINCIDE WITH A PERIOD OF HIGHER THAN NORMAL SPRING TIDES.
MINOR COASTAL FLOODING WILL BE POSSIBLE DURING THE HIGH TIDE CYCLE ON SUNDAY MORNING. DURING THE HIGH TIDE CYCLE OF SUNDAY EVENING...ONLY 1.5 TO 2.5 FEET OF TIDAL SURGE WILL BE NEEDED TO PRODUCE MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING. THE SURGE DURING THIS TIME IS EXPECTED TO BE ABOVE THESE LEVELS...WITH PRELIMINARY SURGE FORECASTS OF AROUND 3 FEET. THIS WOULD PRODUCE SERIOUS COASTAL FLOODING SIMILAR TO THAT EXPERIENCED DURING THE HALLOWEEN STORM OF 1991 AND THE SUPERSTORM OF MARCH 1993.
