 | opinions needed- new job and TTC Hello LadiesThis is my first post over here on this board. I was hoping for some opinions. I just got a great new job- I am a Reading Teacher, hourly, part time, for the Great Neck Schools, and Im very excited. The thing is, I was planning to start TTC very soon. They do offer a family medical leave, I asked the woman in charge of benefits when she was signing me up. My question is, do you think it would hurt my chances of being asked back for the following school year if I became PG and took the leave my first year? Or should I put a full year in before TTC? Thanks for your opinions.

 | Re: opinions needed- new job and TTC That's a tough one since you never know when/if how quick you'll get pregnant. I would think the majority of us on this board never thought it would be an issue and unfortunately it is....

I'm not a teacher either so I have no idea about how tenure works.

I have to agree, you don't know how long it's going to take...so it becomes an issue for that reason. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

 | Re: opinions needed- new job and TTC I am a teacher too, I have seen women get pregnant their first year, and they were asked to return. I have also seen it happen where they werent asked to return. The best advice I can give you is this: Do an awesome job while you are there. Make sure they will want you back! That way it wont be the end of the world if you are out for a while. However, if you want to take a whole year off they might have to replace you. Good luck, this is a tough one. |
